It's 2015, is there a reasonable way to make a sega neptune shell yet?

I used clay ages ago for moulds for vacuum forming, when the water dries out of the clay the clay ends up slightly warped and also shrinks but about 15-20%. I found if you want to make a 1:1 mould, quick-drying cement is good.

if you have the skill, making an mold out of Styrofoam and then putting it in sand and pouring molten aluminum on it would work too :)

    Hey guys,

I'm brand new to this site and came across this thread due to wanting to build my own Sega Neptune. I am lucky enough to live with someone who has done a lot of 3D modelling (and other countless rad things) who is willing to help me design an outer shell to print from a 3D printer. He has had a look at the original Sega Neptune and thinks it will be quite easy to do, he just said the dimensions will have to be perfect for it to work, especially if I were to use the bottom half of the Mega Drive 2. He does have other work to do so he will only be able to do it in his spare time so may be a slow process at first and I expect it to take a few prints to get it just right. It is now 2016 and I feel that this must finally be done!!!!

Yes, please! I'm assuming this will require the top to be a bit taller than a stock Mega Drive, but this would be idea for a homebuilt Neptune.
