Today I decided to go on a shopping spree around the shops of the city for some goodies. While I did find some great buys I also received some sad and shocking news :smt022

Two of the biggest electrical stores in this city have had a turn of heart as far as game retailing goes. While one store had a good reason the other didn't. Let's start with Best Denki.

Best Denki or Best Electric in English did have a wonderful Games section that still even stocked original game boy stuff and Saturn games. Today I went to the shop for the first time in 1 month only to find that the entire games and DVD/CD section had been replaced by over stock washing machines and TVs from another Best Denki store. I asked the sales staff what had happened to all of the games. They told me that they are having a major refit this month and that the games would be back but in lower numbers :smt009 So I guess I just have to wait.

Next up is Applied. Now this shop has just been redone with new shelving ect. So today I entered looking for some cheap Dreamcast goodies. To my horror the Dreamcast games had gone :smt017 But Neo Geo Pocket was still there :smt017 :smt017 I asked the sales guy what had happened to the massive selection that they had. He told me that they now have a new manger. The sales guy was really nice and pointed out to me that they now stock no Sega goods at all. Even on the PS2 or Game Cube. "WTF !" I thought. Why is that? He told me that the manager is a Sony nut which explains why the PS2 stuff was everywhere and why Game Cube and the rest of the stuff was crammed in to the corner. He also told me that this manager had a dislike towards Sega. I asked to speak to this wanker of a manager, so the kind sales guy went to get him. 20 minutes latter this short smug little sh!t of a guy came out. I asked him why there where no Sega items on the shop floor, to which he replied "Sega's goods don't make us money so we didn't stock them". I then asked so where are the 100's of Dreamcast games that were here last week. He told me that they were in the back waiting to be sent off. Where to I don't know. So I asked if I could buy some cheap before they go. He said "NO" in English with a strong tone. I asked "why not?" so he said "because you western people will just sell them to your country" . I replied that I wanted the games for myself but he insisted that I was going to sell them. The fucking arse hole ! So I finally said In English because by this time I was too pissed off with the racist bastard " f*ck you then. You've just lost yourself 20'000 yen since that's what I've was going to spend" He replied "NO" again in English. The soft sh!t :snipe:

I'm never shopping in that place again. Tell me that I'm not the only one to have met such an arse hole of a manager. Other shops know that I sell stuff to other countries buy they welcome me every week because I give them much business. Hard Off even recommend stuff for me to sell over seas :smt023

I would make a formal complaint to their head office, noting that he made racial slur's towards you. If I refused to sell something to someone because of their nationality, I would expect:

    a) a kicking
    b) the sack

While its true he didnt have to sell anything to you, he did it in a totally unacceptable way.

Why not try sending your wife down to Applied? Perhaps the manager has a soft spot for women (dont we all :smt043 )

Damn that sucks dude. I hate when game shops focus in just one system too. There's one here in Rio that only sells PS2 stuff and i find that ridiculous.

By the way, why japanese people have this attitude of not selling for western people? (asking because this quote: "because you western people will just sell them to your country") :smt017

there's a difference from someone buying 10 copies of the same game and one buying 1 copy for yourself.

Hope you find some stuff at Hard Off

I'd love too but you know what would happen don't you? I'd be deported :smt019

Johnny, the reason why some sh!ts like this guy won't sell to westerners is simply because they're racist. They want all the goods to stay in Japan for Japanese to use. Luckily that in this city where I live he is the only racist sh!t I've met in the last 5 years. Well apart from the odd 80 year old :smt043 Places like Hard Off, Camillion Club and Magic Box see me a few times every month (well The Hard Off staff see me twice a week :smt033 ) and they are more than happy to sell me stuff. Sometimes I even get a freebee or a small discount. So I think that this guy in Applied is just an arse.

Tachikoma, I'd love to report that guy to the head office but since Japanese isn't my native tounge it's far too difficuilt for me. I don't want to ask my wife either. I'll just spred the word that he's a wanker.

Dude, where the fuck do you find these people? I've never had a problem like that. Then again, I've got Akihabara, and the worse thing that happened was Medialand put the Saturn stuff on the same floor as the PS stuff. :)

Guys like that just have a chip on their shoulder. It's easy for them to dis on westerners, but I got news for him --- without whities, they ain't dick. Ever notice how the Japanese parliament gets their panties in a wad when the $/yen goes to 105? B/c the import market they thrive on goes south.

The closest thing I got to something like this was when I was on my study abroad, and came to Tokyo to visit. I asked some anime dipshit on the net where the good shops were. He was reluctant to tell me, b/c he said the shopkeeps would be mad (at him specifically for telling a whitey where to buy the good stuff). Well, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out where they are. Of course, I was treated with nothing but thanks as I spent hundreds.

Point in the direction of Hawaii and say "look". Sheesh... Japanese people are world reknown for fucking up the price curve for everyone! They even have their own special prices at places in Korea!

I was threatened to be deported once for driving a 100CC scooter without a license. :)

Yakumo... you ... you western kind you (or something) you sh!t!
    NO damnit!

    :smt043

heheh.... Just messing with you :)

That sucks man.... I think I would be extremely irritated that he had 100 or so DC titles in the back that could be purchased!!!!
It would have been on like... :smt097 or possibly :smt027
    or ultimately :axe:

ahahaha... ah well, that sucks.... maybe you could have someone find out where they are being shipped too (unless the little sob is selling them outright himself ;) managers always get the hookup - it's no fair) sounds like he was an older guy too.

but you still have some shops left that have older stuff for the DC/Saturn right?

I don't think I've ever had too much of a problem but them videogame managers can get big headed (not sure why... but anyways) I know when I was going in to get some clearance DC stuff... it was like 1.49 and then had a 50% off... and I was like... so it's 75 cents with the 50% of? And (SHE - the manager) was like, NO.... it's ALREADY marked down as low as they go!
I was like... um, ok.. damn... take it easy or something.

take it up there... and haha, as suspected, they rang up at a little over 70 cents each.. I just smiled at her and said... I'll be right back.. I'm gonna get some more stuff ... hahaha....

:smt043 that happened to me too in Nishi-Ogikubo in 1999 :smt043 I had to go and sit in the Koban for 2 hours with my mate waiting for this guy who could translate for us. We knew no Japanese at that time.

    re

Well, at least you can find Dreamcast games :smt009 .

In America, no one seems to sell them anymore. The EB Games (ugh) 30 miles from my house (closest gaming shop) used to have a decent selection (maybe 30 used games), but they're gone now! I asked the manager where they all went, and he said that they'd "restock shortly". Pfft, the man hasn't restocked anything Dreamcast-related for 3 months :(.

I refuse to buy Dreamcast games locally. The GAME store nearest to me (30 minute bus journey) has a shite selection of pre-owned stuff (they refuse to accept anything pre-playstation 1 due to older titles being "Completly worthless"). The few times that they have ever gotten Dreamcast titles traded in they stick a £10+ Price tag on it and claim its a rare game. Chu Chu Rocket for £10? Bite me :p House of the Dead 2 (not the gun pack version) £25? Screw that ^_^

The only games they ever sell cheap pre-owned are the X-box and PS1 games.

Oh, and about the Manager loving Sony? It happens in all the stores over here.....you have to walk all the way to the back of the stores to find a corner that is cramped with Gamecube titles on about 2 shelves. Then the store manager defends this by saying Gamecube stuff doesn't sell....No wonder if its all left at the back! Little Children don't have the attention span to get past the racks of shitty PS2 games to get to the Gamecube stuff ^_^

=Note= Don't take that as "PS2 gamez are all teh suxxorz!" I have a PS2 and like the games I have :) But you've got to admit there is alot more shite on the PS2 compared to the 'Cube :p

These guys only selling PS/PS2 stuff is because they probably make huge profit from Sony fans. They probably buy everything they can.

Although 90% of my collection is PS/PS2 i'm not like that. Thank god i'm not that stupidy.

And a store to be called "Game Store" must have anything related to gaming. From pong to today's systems.

Yakumo that's what very threatening accents and body language are for. It's my specialty. For dickheads, I usually stop for 5-7 seconds and just stare in their eyes. They hate eye contact. Then talk very softly in very coarse language. I only had to use this once or twice, and both time with cab drivers, and you know how they are...

I was on the translating side once at a Koban, but it was for a guy I met that had his locker robbed. Was the longest 3 hours of my life.

There's one more point that should be brought up in this thread, which I recalled after writing my message last night.

There's an invention that the Japanese traditionally ignore, which is the suggestion box. I guess Japanese have always been too passive to use it, so they just did away with it altogther.

sometimes when i am pissed at the persons (like the manager)

i get even more polite and gives them if all fails a changing eye colour look (yes i can change my eye colour into light blue ) and then i really gives them at the same time the so called "evil look"

the thing about the change of colour is as if i cry but there are no tears just the eye colour changing instead

  19. You could, if you really wanted to, go all counter-asshole and print out a very nice sign that could be affixed to the window or door that says something along the lines of, "Please do not shop here because you are supporting racism and the stocking of goods only according to a manager's preference" or something like that. Heaven know's I'd pull shit like that if any local store gave me crap....

My question is, he's got a problem selling to you because you are white and are therefore whoring out every facet of the Japanese culture to the rest of your gaijin bretheren, but does he realize that so many Japanese do the same thing, but in even bigger volumes that you do? EBay outfits like Palet Mail Service and Rabit Derivery Service (I'm not kidding) have tons of crap up all the time.

This kindof goes to support some of the rumors I've heard that Japan and racism towards outsiders... not that it's indicative of the nation as a whole, but I guess certain people can still be cocks.

Definitely doesn't describe the nation as a whole (not sure about Yakumo, but my in-laws think I hung the moon) but it does illustrate the fact that you can do fuck-all about it.
