Doesn't really feel that long ago. Granted next year is 20 years here in the States and not sure for Europe. But come November for the Saturn and December for the PS1 both consoles will be 20 years old. I still have EGMs with the Hype. The Saturn being the system hyped up as the best thing ever and owning your own arcade. The PS1 Just being hyped as some big question mark, maybe another 3DO. Funny how that turned out. One is not longer with us. The other realized dick move after dick move wasn't good PR. Who would have throught a Middle Finger at Nintendo would fly?

I felt old when I realized 9th grade was 12 years ago. I ordered some old toys off eBay that I was really into at the time (Bit Char-g RC cars) and it dawned on me that these toys have been unopened for 12 years.

PS was sweet in its day, spent a small fortune on it. Still have a saturn boxed up ready to go in the bin.. Saturn i don't really care for for some reason, guess its ok if you like a lot of 2d smups etc.

Right place, right time, right decisions and a huge enthusiasm to troll Nintendo and SEGA. The Playstation was a perfect storm.

If Nintendo hadn't pissed Ken Kutaragi off so much we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Sometimes I'm sad that PC gaming doesn't have major milestones like this. Mostly small(ish) stuff like Win95's release (games started really using it only somewhat slowly), the Pentium bug, first 3DfX card (support/usage: see 95 release), GHz barrier broken, ... Oh well, that's just the way it is with "rolling release" platforms.

3D ruined games. Back in my day all you could afford were 2 dimensions and we liked it that way! With the 2600 (back when men were men) kids had to use their imagination. Then the PS1 appeared and all hope was vanquished from the universe. [insert more annoying nostalgia bullshit]

You whippersnapper. Back in my day all the "graphics" on the system were blocks and overlays. Our Magnavox Odyssey only worked with a Magnavox TV and we liked it. The static cling overlays were the best part.

When Sega went 3rd party there were strong rumors of them porting Saturn games to the PS1 that never panned out. How epic would it have been to have the Panzer Dragoon games on the PS1? I love Nights, I love the fighters, but my favorite Saturn game is Panzer Dragoon Zewi it's one of the few Saturn games that STILL looks great even now.

I wouldn't call those rumors strong, considering the PS1 was being phased out already when Sega made the announcement.

Still alot of what if's there. YES alot of those Saturn games did get remade for the PS2 but they weren't the same and Only the first Panzer Dragoon was ported. That and most of them were Japan Only.

Sega Saturn was released just 3 days before I was born (born in november 24), it was the first console that I've played.

I remember seeing Nights in a demo unit at Wal-Mart.
Way to make me feel really old.

I only got Nights when it came out on PS2. I never really gave it a fair shake until the HD version was on XBLA. Now that I have the Original it's again, one of my favorite games, Top 20 at least.

I still don't have it yet, and I didn't have a Saturn as a kid, I just remember it looked FREAKING AMAZING. I do have the PS3 version though, I either got it in a sale or from PS+

Nights is amazing That was the case with alot of Saturn games. So many of them were just uniquely Saturn. That's something missing from Modern gaming, Consoles don't feel different enough from each other.

With its tablet controller and focus local multi the Wii U stands out well. The Xbox One would've been very Kinect oriented if they had not shied away from mandatory usage.
