I was only there for 2 weeks, but those things all make complete sense.

I want to go back there some day.... sigh...

The one about ATMs would be funny if I didn't constantly get fucked by their stupid hours. For me it's more cases of them being open, but not supporting my bank. Even worse than being closed.

All the ATMs I saw while I was in Japan looked like the ATMs you would have seen in the mid 90s in Canada. In fact, going to Japan felt like going back to the mid 90s. What a nostalgia trip.

There are some that are very nice. Soft sounds when you hit the buttons... fading screens... people bowing to you on those screens. I've yet to see any of this caliber on trips to the US. Then again, I'd take a monochrome one that's open 24 hours over whatever the fuck Japan was thinking with theirs any day.

Oh man, so many true statements that only people who have lived here could really understand. I couldn't help but laugh at - "When having a meeting, hand out a 20 page document then read the entire document out loud" because that's what I had to sit through today. Two fucking hours of listening to shit I could have read in 30 minutes. If there is one thing I had to say I hated about living here (there are many as well) it would be the stupid ass way Japanese have "meetings" in companies.

I'd have been seriously fucked in Japan without 7/11.

    Good grief!

I find it bad enough when people have a PowerPoint presentation, then just read verbatim what's on the slides. Your thing sounds unbearable...

We had to use CitiBank or Japan Post ATMs, nothing else would accept our cards. :-/

Thankfully our hotel was just a block away from the Shinjuku CitiBank branch.

    hahaha, so true.

Someone should make one for the following situation. - every time the missus and I go to a place and have to talk to staff, they completely ignore me even though I say stuff in Japanese. even when talking about me (in the opticians for example) they look at my wife. WTF, they know I speak Japanese because I just told them. Am I invisible?

My best mates then GF used to just look at whomever did that when were out and say, "he speaks Japanese...". So awkward. What's better is if they go for the Asian in the group that doesn't speak Japanese.

When me and my girlfriend (she is Chinese) were on Hawaii for vacation, all those Japanese business owners would constantly address her in Japanese (Come to our duty-free store! Shoot real weapons in our gun club!). Ironically, Mr. white guy boyfriend would have been the right person to address with Japanese sales talk :p

Why not do the other way around and say something on the lines of: "Hey dipshit, for your information I can speak Japanese very well and from now on if you have a matter with me, you will adress me and not my Japanese wife".

I know this is really brutal because of how Japanese people are. But hey, it's either they who get you stressed and annoyed over simple shit like this, or it's the other way around.

I guess I've been fortunate as only visiting and studying about Japan when I was an undergrad student - keeps you shielded from the daily rage living there :)

Mind, the public transport system over there murders anything over here. Like, flaming trident murder.

There's a handful of things that Japan does impeccably. The only problem w/ the public transit system is that if you lose your ticket (even if you have a receipt) they will make you pay for it again on the other end -- even the pricey seat if they knew you had it. They are fucking nazis about this. Other than that it's perfect... unless you don't like being molested.

Parcel delivery smokes the US, and I assume everywhere else.

Things that are flat out horrible: tooth paste. Deodorant. TV.

The japanese postal sevice and delivery companies are second to none. They are fantastic. You could send something very rare with next to no packing and it would still arrive in perfect shape and fast. Also, if you are out the postman will always come again the same day as long as you call before 6pm.

I actually like Japanese toothpaste. I'm using a honey flavored one right now. It does actually taste like honey! I don't use deodorant at all, I just don't need it. Luck me I guess but I'm with you on the TV. Japanese TV shows are total shit in every respect and they NEVER come up with anything new. And when I say Never I mean NEVER. Lets just say, if you watch japanese TV for a week, then you've seen all it had to offer for the last 15 years. No new concepts for shows, no special interest shows such as motoring or gaming and so on.
