SS did a solder job. Rather should I say, SS did a bad soldering job. But, I fear taking the iron to it more will only complicate the problems... so, do you guys think it will work or short out?

best answer i can give you and so far is turn the fucker on and see what it does and get your answer from observation.

If you feel like you did a good job and believe in your work then push the button and pray it works flawlessly.

Hopefully that is a good enough answer for you :p

You could take a multimeter on continuity mode and actually check for shorts. It's super hard to determine that from pictures, but super easy when you're sitting in front of the board with a meter.

I think it will be better to re-solder stuff around JP3-JP4 and use 25-35W soldering iron instead of 120W one this time. Also do you really have to use such thick wires?

to be safe, I'd start again, with smaller wire, lol.

What gauge wire is that? I cannot see the pads with that thick insulation! You can use kynar or similar for this type of work.

I did, and I got some continuity, but not enough to make the multimeter beep. Like anywhere from .245 to .860, but I have no idea what its supposed to be, as all these points go to something that connects them, right?

JP3-JP4? Didn't solder anything there, lol. I don't have a 25-35W, but I do have a Weller WES51. All work was done at 550F. Not really, its just what I had.

Yeah... I would as well, lol. But its what I had. Think taking the iron to it longer is gonna cause problems?

Oh, only 16 gauge.... LOL, I don't do much small soldering. Typically what I do is just 12GA wire, so this small stuff is hard. BTW, its covered in liquid electrical tape, so it might just be that you see.

Hmm. A scary answer for sure... but I might just try it. But before I do... anyone got a VA6 Genesis board for sale? :p

if your iron is only 550f (287c) that should be fine. I doubt you'll cause much, if any damage to the board. I run my iron at 450c alot of the time, and dont have any issues. (I know, I know, I should turn it down when im not working on ground planes)

Oh, good. In that case, I'll dig and find some smaller wire and redo. What gauge do you suggest?

26 gauge should be fine. Get stranded wire too not solid wire, its easier to work with. 28 gauge should be ok too, although i've never used anything that small outside of PS2 modchips, so don't quote me on that.

It's JP1-JP2 or something but i didn't see the numbers with all those melted insulation drops so i named closest ones.
