and i was interested in getting some suggestions from you guys. the base is obviously VG related: it's the Big blue theme from F-Zero. the remix's name is "The Big Blue Planet" http://www.auritech.eu/TBBPv2.mp3 let me know your ideas. karsten
It sounds great, you really did a good job! Which programs are you using? By the way I'm doing the opposite thing: I take some random songs and remix them with VG synthetizers. Here's an example, with "Through the Fire and Flames" from Dragonforce (I still have to fix some stuff, mainly in the solos): http://rapidshare.com/files/81789362/through_the_fire_and_the_flames.mp3
glad to hear you liked it! by the way, vg synthetizer? what are they? what do you mean? i use fruity loops... it's an incredible program! you should try it out!
The only VG Synths I know of are Roland guitar synths? I can't get the link to work here, but that is no surprise as the security settings are way over the top on these PCs. Will listen when I get home.
I'm using FL Studio 7, it's probably the best prog of the category (I never got used to Reason even when lots of people says it's way better) And when I talk about VG synthetizer it's nothing strange, for example if you hear the song you'll see it's entirely made with NES synthetizers (using 3xOsc and a NES soundfont for the drums). I start from the guitar tab, turn it into a midi with Guitar Pro and import it in FL Studio. Later I give them some sound and I start working on the song (correcting notes, tunning the instruments, etc). Maybe I'll upload some more stuff later.
Well, I use Sonys acid studio that wasn´t made by Sony originally but Sonic Foundry, and when I make the remixes, I am really just having fun. And the newest remix is of one of my friends ambient tracks And he wrote this as a message about the track (of course you will get a link to it) "Fik tilsendt et upopfordret remix af en af mine trax" Tak til AK for det. http://dubqnp.dk/?p=386 translation is as follows. Got a remix sent to me which was without being asked for (from his side) of one of my tracks, thanks to AK for it (AK is an abbreviation of Alan.Kieshardt) http://dubqnp.dk/audio/AmbyPotersen_Eurocon_mate_AK_remix.mp3 This is my newest remix. If you like the remix, then either write here, or write at his blog. He is a friend of mine his name when he makes music is dubdub/dubqud
now i understand! actually in my work i use FL7 studio too but i start by making midis out of SPC and NSF files using some utilities you can find at zophar domain's. i consider it a faster and more accurate way. you should try, really!
If you're looking for VG midis maybe you should take a look to http://www.vgmusic.com, there're tons of midis, from really accurate versions to complete remixes. I took the NES soundfont from Zophar's domain. It's really helpful for the drums section, but the NES instruments (square and triangle waves) I prefer to make them using 3xOsc, the soundfont is a little limited.
it's usually forbidden to midi-rip. at least in almost all the remix sites... i've just registered at the reopening of http://www.vgmix.com it's a great place for Videogames remixers, and give you online space for your remixes, and a blog for free! maybe you should join up
I use Reason 4. I tend to make my own tracks though, no remixes. What do people use for keyboards (as in midi inputs)?
right now I just use a mouse (or in the case of trackers, my keyboard) and some times that midi over wifi interface for NDS. I've been looking for a cheap midi keyboard for sometime.. but I always end up buying game/dev stuff for the money instead ^_^;; The real target is a MicroKorg the day I can afford it.
If you require a really decent Mini sized Midi keyboard you should look at a second hand Alesis. They are superb! I'll see whether I can hunt down the particular details of the one I used to own. Regretted selling it almost immediately. Edit: One on eBay. Don't be put off by the size of the unit, it packs a seriously hefty punch, has stunning presets, but is incredibly 'on the fly' editable and my only gripe is the slightly Yamaha PSR type keys which were not the most responsive, but for the price....yum! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ALESIS-MICRO-SYNTH-Analog-Modeling-Synthesizer_W0QQitemZ290196069004QQihZ019QQcategoryZ38071QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I've actually been looking at that one too as the price seems pretty ok. But before I buy anything like that I need a new TV.. and by my calculations that wont happen until this summer. So I still got some time to decide which one to buy
Have a look at the unit up from it. It is practically the same, however it is a large keyboard (handy) and more of the functions are spread across the unit so it is more to hand if you gig.
Ive been making some wierd remixes before. No videogame songs though. Instead Steelers Wheel and some floyd. Me and a mate was working on a pink floyd tribute some time ago and we produced some material. the name of the record was 'bit floyd - the least significant bit of the moon'. lol. Im searching for a new psu for my atariST and until then im only using my pc. A good tracker, some square/sine waves, noisy drums and youre set to go. I dont really see ANY reason to use anything than trackers for chiptunes. but thats maybe jus me. i had a change of mood and this came out: http://www.auritech.eu/TBBPv4.mp3 what do you think is more worth working on?
Holy crap I am so impressed - that makes me want to drag the Atari ST out of the attic and have another go!!!!
i'm done with the song! http://www.vgmix.com/karsten here you can find the final version, ready to be reviewed too!
