Took my driving test for the 2nd time today and passed !! I was well shocked that I passed too. I was like a bag of nerves since the place that I took the test in is somewhere that I've never been to in my life. Now, as soon as my license comes I'll be shooting off home to my wife in Japan :drinkers: Yakumo
Congrats! I failed my theory on that stupid reaction video thing, so lost interest. I really need to get back at it...
Good show! Care to go into the boring details of how you go about getting a license there? It seems there are higher standards or stricter rules than the US, or maybe not?!? This might make you feel good, I know two people that didn't get their license until they were over 30. :smt009
re Congratulations Yakumo! :smt023 I might have to take mine soon, as we're looking at a car for me (if the oil leak isn't too bad, then we'll make an offer). Our driving tests here are easy as pie, though :-D .
Thanks for the congrats' guys. Driving tests in the UK are really hard these days. First you have to do a 2 part theory test. Part 1 is 45 questions then part 2 is a reaction video test. This is the part that Tachikoma failed on. This part of the test is really hard and I swear that the responsiveness of the system is terrible. Next there's the practical test. I fail this once. Everything has to go right for you on the day. If it doesn't then you're in trouble. Luckily today I had a great examiner. The guy was an ex-police officer but an understanding one. He knew I was nerves and took it in to consideration. He said that you don't really start to learn how to drive until you pass your test. It's only then that you can gain confidence. Oh, and now in the UK we must answer 3 questions on vehicle maintenance :smt009 They really do make it hard to pass in the UK. Still, 2 and a half times cheaper than Japan :smt045 Yakumo PS: LeGIt, I got my provisional license in 1992. So 3 1/2 years ago isn't that bad :-D
Congrats Yakumo! It indeed sounds like the driving tests across the pond there are hard - the US ones are pretty much easy common sense stuff that 90% of the population forgets as soon as they earn their license... :angry Maybe we'd have less idiots on the road if our tests were tougher.
OMEDETOU GOZAIMASU (^_^) You worked really hard to pass that bugger, im really pleased for you, nice one. :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023 :smt023
Whoa, no wonder you failed. That would be hard for anyone. Congratulations. :smt023 In the US, all you have to do is take a written test to get your permit (the hard part), and after getting your permit, take the driving part to get your license (the easy part). I failed the written part twice before I finally got it.
Thanks for the explanation. Way back when... when you turned 15 1/2 you could go get a learners permit, then through school you'd take drivers education. This envolved class room discussions, simulators (fake plastic car) where you watched a film and had to signal and brake to the action and then the last couple of weeks actual road time. The cars had a second brake pedal on the teachers side, what a joke! If you passed drivers ed and or took an outside class like Sears driving school, you could take the State test at 16. If you didn't do either you had to wait until you turned 18 to take the test. I passed my written and drive the first time, and looking back it was too easy. :-D
I guess we should mark driving tests as one of the bonuses of living in the states. Although going to the DPS to pick it up can be very scary at times. Maybe it was just Texas, but it always seemed so seedy.
