Totally agree. Big corporations don't deserve to have their IP protected. Fight the man, man. But as a full blown non-hypocritical communist I have to say neither do "community artisans" who make piracy devices but don't release them as open source.

 

I´ve just bought mine from China, I can´t wait to test it!

I think a large part of this whole conflict is the "artisan" versus "businessman" designation;

Deunon "the Electrical Engineer" certainly deserves all the credit for the R&D that went into the GDEMU, the hard work he put into crafting each device, and his willingness to make that device available to purchase.
In a perfect world he'd be the only one making a buck off his ideas and work.

With that said, Deunon "the businessman" obviously left a lot to be desired, and if we're being honest with ourselves, the hundreds of people lining up to buy a GDEMU weren't doing so as connoisseurs of "organically grown, free range, and hand-crafted artisinal ODE devices", They wanted something that would play disc images on their Dreamcasts, and they wanted it yesterday.

As a consequence; though he was operating this venture under the guise of a highly proprietary artisinal business (Which he maintained for 4-5 years), there was a fatal flaw in his operation; There was nothing inherent to the GDEMU that couldn't be emulated by someone else, at a larger scale, for less money, and for less hassle than consumers were going through to obtain the authentic product.

As we stand here now, with all the finger pointing between Deunon, the detractors, the apologists, and everyone else, It seems to me that Deunon himself bears much of the responsibility for his own misfortune;
He seems to have anticipated that his work could be cloned, and yet he persisted in an antagonistic and outmoded business model that left him not only vulnerable to IP theft, but also left him an unsympathetic victim to many in his own community, and that may be the most tragic outcome of this entire mess.

 

Cant really parp on about piracy on it anymore as I dont think Sega cares, if they did we would have more than one Dreamcast collection (3rd party games aside)

As with Everdrives, should the creator do a future software update, it could well brick it.

I tend to keep politics and religion out of my topics especially online because they really bring out the worst in people. Not to say I don't agree with either side, but not worth the drama.

Also, yes, people take stuff way to seriously now, so I do agree people need to be allowed to make some jokes here and there, but this discussion is mostly about the clone device to educate people especially what to look for to tell if they are buying a clone or the real thing. I would hate to be the guy who bought one of these marked up for $200 thinking it was an official GDEmu.

 

It must be tough seeing your hard work being copied, but I am sure people eventually will see a difference between the two products, not unlike the ever drives who have "China versions" for those who are willing to take risks to save a few bucks.

Hopefully, official GDEMU will also evolve into upgraded versions to provide further incentive for those who support original products.

its funny to read complains about "copying" whille the dev himself outsourced the full device production cycle to chinese manufacturer to be able to squeze even more $$$$$$. the price of this device is insane tbh, not everyone on this planet live in hyperinflation like many of you do. for example my monthly salary is 450EU, with our prices i can live decent and even rise a kid. now imagine what means for me to spend 150bucks on a device with ~50bucks prime production cost.

 

Ok folks, I bought one from the UK. The reason I did this is because I knew it would arrive much faster than from China, but I had to pay a premium for that, which was about 90 Pounds or close to $115 shipped. However, it already arrived via air mail to the United States. I still haven't gotten it, but I ordered it on the 13th, and it is now the 17th. I expected it to take 4 weeks tops. It is now in Chicago, Illinois, and I live near Dallas, Texas(Fort Worth). Once I receive it, I will let you all know how it is. I expect it within the week. I will say how many days it took to arrive once I get it.

I would have rather given Denuan this money, but since it is so fucking difficult to purchase one from him, and I have waited since 2014, I unfortunately had to buy a clone.
