    Hey Guys

I was checking out a jailbreak through Absinthe 2.0.4 since I have iOS 5.1.1. I thought I'd come here and make sure I'm not messing anything up before I do it. It's my first time....be gentle.

After quite a bit of research it looks like I don't really lose anything in terms of functionality? No lost files, nothing inoperable, regular syncs through iTunes, no loss of my paid content, etc., correct? And if there are any problems I can simply restore the iPad back to the last iOS 5.1.1 that I have saved in iTunes?

I have an iPad 2 that I bought in Japan and I'm back in the US, so I'm assuming there won't be any problems there, but better safe than sorry. Any word on using it on carriers like Verizon or is that a hopeless compatibility issue? A "regular" Japanese iPad 2 only works with Japanese carriers as far as I know.

    Thanks!

As far as I know iPads are not carrier locked but there are CDMA and GSM models. The GSM models have a slot for a Micro SIM card on the left side, CDMA models don't. Verizon uses CDMA, so if your iPad is GSM it won't work at all.

I have no first-hand experience with CDMA but apparently those carriers use whitelisting for their hardware, so here is where you would probably need the jailbreak. GSM model iPads shouldn't be carrier locked at all, so you can just put in a SIM card and are good to go.
