I've begun cataloging my gaming collection, starting with SNES. I came across these two white label carts.
    Labels read:

    JALECO(USA)
    King Arthur's World

    PROPERTY OF
    JALECO USA, INC.
    SUPER E.D.F.

Labels are paper, with EDF having a Jaleco logo cutout and glued on top.
King Arthur's World has unusual nuts holding the cart shell together. (Not standard Nintendo bolts)

Haven't been able to track down any info on them thus far. Any idea what these might sell for?

You need to open them and see if they are eprom protos or just press release copies.

Would be interested in Super EDF if you ever sell it.

Open them up to see what's inside or dump it and compare rom with the retail version. Probably a review copy, very nice find :)

Yeah if there are substantial differences you might find yourself with a good amount of cash in your hands

They look more like review copies than anything - likely to be final or near-final code.

Moved to price check, as you're asking for value ;)

Oooops. Sorry about mistargeting the appropriate subforum. Thanks!

I plugged in the games to try them out. Unfortunately, I never played KAW, and it's been so long since playing EDF, there weren't any glaring differences or obvious indications of differences from what might be a final version.

The bolts on KAW look fairly simple to open with standard tools. I'll need to get my hands on one of those specialized Nintendo drivers, for EDF, (Unless somebody can recommend an off the shelf stand in that won't damage anything.)

I will have to see if anyone local has the ability to dump and evaluate the roms.

    Thanks all!

It's pretty easy to find out, just weight the cartridge. Eprom carts are usually much heavier than a normal cart.

I didn't notice that! Forum name on paper would be good, thanks! ;) See PM for more info, though.

How much of a weight difference are we talking?

Super Mario World weighed in at 3.2
    Double Dragon at 2.8

    Nice multitasking! ;)

Even promo copies had EPROMs sometimes. All you can do is play and see if there are differences or dump and compare.

    A little more info, FWIW:
These were acquired in the early 2000's, in the Northern Chicago Suburbs. Back in the early to mid 90's, there were a good number of publishers and game developers that had distribution arms and offices there, for example: Data East, Capcom, Sega, Atari, etc. As such, their employees lived in the area. There were, (are still?) good finds to be had up there at garage sales!

Also, big magazines of the day, such as EGM, had offices in Northern IL, so it makes sense that prerelease or proto carts would have been in circulation.

I wouldn't be surprised if these were on dev boards. Honestly, though, I doubt that these titles will be significantly different from final, since neither of these games were developed in the US. There is an early version of King Arthur's World, a demo when it was titled "Havoc", but that was already dumped.

I'm new here, but i have a number of Jaleco snes prototypes / early review carts, there looking just like your King Arthurs world, crack them open, I'm sure they should have eproms. So at least King Arthur should be different to the retail in terms of how the board looks
