James Cameron to direct Gunnm: Battle Angel

Anyone else know about this? I'm way out of the anime loop (on purpose).

I think the English title should be Ganmu though --- Battle Angel sounds so B-movie action flick-ish.

It's going to be shite like EVERY game movie (Bio Hazard was nothing like the game and neither was Final Fantasy) They'll also Americanise it which will completely destroy what Gundam stands for. Why bother ?

The film should be interesting, Cameron can be a reasonable director.

Yeah I heard about this a while ago. I've never read the manga or seen the anime though. I'm not so quick to say this will be an Americanized piece of shit like some others here though. Unlike the hack directors like Uwe Boll and Paul WS Anderson who normally do these types of movies Cameron know his stuff. After all he directed Aliens and Terminator 1 and 2. Also after Titanic you know he could have picked just about any movie he wanted to direct so if he picked this one it has to mean something to him. If this goes well it could be the turning point that show these types of movies can be done right.

In any case go to http://aintitcool.com/ and type his name into the search option to bring up some info on this. Just be sure to use " before and after his name otherwise a search will bring up every article on the site.

 

Game-movies usually suck ass as a rule.

I did like Resident Evil (Biohazard) though. Mila Jovavich is hot. Yeah, it wasn't exactly like the game, but it still had plenty of asskicking and zombies. Although that part where she karate kicked the dog was pretty stupid.

They should make a Castlevania movie, if done right that would totally rock. Like Van Helsing, but actually good.

 

Resident Evil 1 was ALL RIGHT, not great but all-right.

 

Mortal Kombat was the best game-to-movie translation ever. Hands down.

Yeah, Mortal Kombat sucked. Anyone ever see that pathtic TV show they made from it?

It only lasted one season and had Xena/Hercules level effects. Truely sad.

 

Well, if it makes anyone feel any better, most games to anime suck as well, and for a very large part, most anime to games are pretty bad too.

Actually, Ghost in the Shell isn't that bad, and there's a handful of good Gundam games. Considering there's like 200 of them out there though, you'd hope to get at least 50 good ones.
