Hello all, Apols if this is a daft question, just need clarification by one of you much more knowledgeable guys. Is a Jamma loom basically an extension cable from a Jamma connector on a Supergun / Cabinet to the PCB? Cheers
A JAMMA loom technically is the 56 pin JAMMA connetor and the wires that come off it that connects to the various different things in the cabinet or supergun, if you buy a JAMMA loom you will get the JAMMA connector with a ton of colour coded and marked wires coming from it. It can also mean a loom that connects the signals from a non JAMMA game (Sega System 16, early Konami, early Capcom, etc) to a JAMMA fingerboard so the game can be played on a JAMMA compatable unit.
Yeah, really loom should be used for the internal wiring (like a loom in a car). It's also known as a harness. People will sometimes use the word harness (and occasionally loom) to mean an adapter, converting a non-JAMMA game for use in a JAMMA cabinet. Really, they should be called a fingerboard, or just an adapter. Harness can also be used to describe a wire used to adapt something that's not part of the JAMMA standard, i.e. a kick harness for extra buttons (e.g. SF2 Kick controls, hence the name) or stereo sound.
JAMMA harness is also used for an simple male-female extension cable, for instance to connect a bulky PCB with a supergun.
True... and again, that should be called JAMMA extension lol. I would accept JAMMA harness extension, though. ;-)
