Super system isn't the same thing though, there isn't A full SNES and a convertor board sitting in there. Super system takes special carts and everything.

I remember playing on both "Nintendo Super System" and "Playchoice" arcade machines when I was like 11 or so, in my local arcade. I really like the fact that you got a "controller" like thing on that super-system machine.
If I recall correctly, I also saw many home-machines converted for timed use, but wasn't sure how it worked.

Sure as hell that's not a licenced product, though. Isn't it against some law to "rent" home consoles in arcades and similar venues? or wasn't it back then?

I remember seeing a really dodgy looking thing like that for PS games a few years ago - it had Tekken 3 on it (probably cuz they couldn't afford the real Namco System 13 Tekken 3), and had a really lame looking timer going along the bottom of the screen - it was like just a big green bar. I remember the picture quality being really crap, too - maybe it had some composite/s-video->RGB converter in it?

Indeed, Super System and Playchoice 10 are different. They take their own games for a start, NOT home carts.

Nintendo wouldn't have licenced this. They wouldn't want arcades buying SNES carts and using them to make loads of money. That's why MVS carts were so expensive - nor did SNK.

Technically, you can link a SNES to JAMMA without modifying it. This, however, is an old mod that allows you to set a time limit and various other options, like the Super System.

It is an interesting item to have for a SNES or arcade collector, still :)
