    Hum, I would tend to agree with Yakumo, being a user of MD jap for 15 years, I would swear it output stereo throught the AV, for sure it does it through the jack plug and it's written on the box.

    I don't understand why SEGA would not make it stereo, the PC Engine does it anyway.

    Time to get the MD out of the box and plug on my TV.

    I have some :) Or are they for the PC Engine? Either way they fit the MD. When I lived in Europe I used the Mega Drive via Scart and I'm sure that gave stereo as well. Oh well, only one more day to wait until I can check.

    Well been around google and found one page in french saying MD 1 mono MD2 stereo, here is the link translated and an extract:

    "Megadrive II left in 1992-1993. It was more compact, the sound button of adjustment and the catch helmet were removed [IMG] in order to propose a less expensive console (the hardware also was re-examined and compacted). The outgoing signal of the console by the péritel (SCART) is now in stereophony. This version was alas known for its brittleness. As for first Megadrive, it was declined in 3 versions (Jap, Us, Euro)."

    Translation is indeed funny, apparently the acronym "MD" when translated from french to english means MANDELEVIUM. :shrug: waft?

    You know whats very cool, some exclusive USA games have FM support. You need a special adaptor to play USA SMS games on you japanese console, they cost about 20 us dollars. Some of those games are Double Dragon and Ys.

    The reason why stereo audio wasn't brought to the AV connector on the MD1 was because there weren't enough pins for RGB, composite *AND* stereo. The reason why PCE could have stereo out was because the PCE connector didn't include RGB. Everyone knows this o_0;
