I got lucky and won an auction for a jap. white "Sonic" Saturn today.

I know it's a rare find but i couldn't find any more info about this "limited edition" model. The only thing i heared of is that it was sold by ToysRus in Japan but i even don't know if that's true.

Anyone has some info about it? (limitation, who sold it / gave it away)

I hate you!!! hehe. Nice find!!

It was sold in Toys R Us Japan, um I have the original price somewhere. The amount produced, well it varies.

Interesting point... on those I've seen, the sonic on the box is on a round sticker. That doesn't look like a sticker to me... is it printed on the box? Or is it just poor contrast, and it is a sticker?

The colour of the Saturn looks relatively the same too... often the lid is clearly a different colour. I'd suggest not leaving this out on display, unless you want it to go that way!!

p.s. I'll give you 4000 Yen for it!!! :D ;) heh. Well, it was worth a try! :p

    Nice one

    Hey there

Nice find. I just sold one on eBay yestersay....

I've heard that it's a Toys R Us model as well, but I won't 100% believe it until I see a Toys R Us sticker on the console box. They used to put the price tags directly onto the box. I've seen it with most other Toys R Us models in the past, such as the Gold N64, but I've yet to see it with any of the dozen or so Sonic Saturn consoles I've seen so far. Perhaps it was an internet special, but it seems a bit early in the internet game for that.

    Congrats again...

    Laters,
    Eric

Nice to see you on the board Eric.....

Perhaps you'd go go through the last 10,000 messages on Assembler and help with some of the questions raised already!....lol......

I think you could provide info on alot of them.....assuming you had a few free months to answer them.....:)

Looks also like a round Sonic sticker on the box on my monitor.
Auction ended today so it'll be approx. 3 weeks until i have it here in germany.

@japan-games: Eric, i saw your Sonic Saturn auction in your email newstracker and that reminded me of taking a look for a Sonic Saturn on Yahoo.
And well - i found that one.

Yeah, I got one dirt cheap as well... free basically. It's one of those items that doesn't show up in Japan that often, but when it does, it's not that expensive. It was a Toys 'R' Us exclusive Saturn...that's about it. Regular price, AFAIK. The only thing I've noticed is they seem to yellow more than normal white ones. Might be coincidence though.

All pictures of Sonic Saturns i saw were discolored. The lid was whiter than the rest of the console. Let's see how mine looks when i'll get it.

Sega Partners Dreamcasts has the same problem. Most consoles are discolored too.

I suspect those bits were manufactured at different location and then assembled hence different colour/hue variation?

yep mine's also showing this pattern. The lid with SONIC is at little bit different white compared to the rest of body yet the whole unit is whiter than my other normal white Saturn... if you catch what I mean...

Yep....most of the ones I've seen or owned have a brighter lid than body. The body seems to change to a darker color, but never quite yellow. Or maybe it's the fact that the lid stays perfect that makes any contrast more apparent.

Thanks for the kind words... There are so many video game message boards that I've never really stuck with one. Maybe this will be my first.
