I am thinking of sending some parcels via surface mail as I will need them in 4 months time and I can pay for insurance.

However I would like to hear of any experiences that any members might have had trying to claim insurance from Japan post in respect to lost or damaged parcels.

I've actually never had to do it, and I've sent a shitload of packages. What I do understand about surface though.

-Send from a large post office (generally the 24 hour ones) and you can get insurance/tracking. They don't offer it from the small ones.
-Must have your slip. This is elementary
-Claims can take a while... up to 2 months for EMS even I hear. But again, never had to do it.
