If this is real (My Japanese is non-existant) all I want to know is where can I get one? http://www.sakakibara-kikai.co.jp/products/other/LW.htm
While it looks good, its not actualy walking in the sense that is moving its joints or physicaly lifiting its feet from the ground to impact. Its more like the old style walking robot toys (the wind up kind). Its still cool as hell and would shit people up if you took it down your local high street. But until they can get them to walk, and at a decent running pace with perhaps side boosters fitted for straving, bi-pedal mecha are totaly impractile for what people would expect, and unforuntaly in this world that means war use. One perfectly aimed RPG at the legs and thats it, mecha down, pilot down. But still Nice find
Wow! My Japanese isn't great, but it's got the word "リアル" (real) in it so I'm taking that as the truth ^_^
That is so damn cool, but, is it legal in Japan to construct very high caliber chainguns in your back yard?
The movement is controlled by 4 pedals it says. They're saying they can one day have more and do wargames with them.
That is the coolest thing I've ever seen. Looks a little unstable though. I can picture some Ewoks knocking it over with logs and stuff rather easily.
Yeah they do, they are called people Seriously though, there are so many flaws with a bipedal system that need working out before anything could be done, which is sad cos they look so much cooler than regular tanks and stuff though. Who knows, maybe the army will try to be cool with walking robots to entice more people to sign up and get shot...
or so high you dont have to bother about anything, iam just waiting for the first official with nukes armed satellite
I don't see bipedal tanks anytime soon for the military but I wouldn't be suprised to see them experimenting with Tachikoma style multi-legged tanks within the next decade.
Sorry, but I don't think any Gundams or mechs will be in the future. Mass-produced for war anyway. It may be big an intimidating, but you could hear and see it a mile away, and it would also be rather slow.
OK big and intimadating mecha ala gundam/orguss/tetsujin etc etc may not be a reality or even practicle, but spider tanks ala tachikoma's (is that even pural??) could be a possibilty, computer controlled drones sent out into the battle to replace humans (and to lower casualitys). But havcing said that, intimadation plays a massive role in war, just think what was going round the soliders heads when they rolled out some of the first tanks during WW1, I bet you any money they thought "oh shit". What would/could be more intimedating then a 4 storey high mecha, just stood there (dosent have to move) lowering some sort of cannon, charging it up and blowing away any ground troops.........yes a bipedal design would be a simple case of taking out the legs (aim your harpoons for the legs!!), but couldnt you also say its a simple case of taking out the tracks on a tank and what have you got? a stationary gun turrent.......so maybe not in our life times, but you never know, if we havent blown ourselfs up with nukes or died from drastic freak weather changings Id like to think some of my future relatives could grow up to be mecha pilots.....oh well, enough of the geek from me....
Space Wars... At the moment there is no need for any military to make an enormous war machine, but maybe when history turns another black page they'll build a single tank with the size of a skyscraper and the length of the biggest ship.
The only practical mecha design I have seen, Imo, is Metal Gear REX. Or the Shagohod. Isnt that just too cool? ARGH! Stupid pic wont show.
