Capcom close 2 arcades and it's the end of the Japan Arcade Industry?

I'm sure Ferrari have shut down a few dealerships but that doesn't mean the end of the Italian car industry...

A number of companies over the years have shut down arcades but there has been no "Oh no end of the arcade industry...", not like there are world problems are the biggest growth in Japanese unemployment for years... stupid kotaku...

yeah, this is just tightening up operations, not the beginning of the end.

Arcades in Japan have been in a much worse state than this in the past, they are actually looking more full than i've seen them recently.

Capcom have some big sites in prime locations too - the Capcom arcade in Kichijoji sits as part of the Parco complex which is, apparently, going to be sold off - so that's possibly the one to go too.

Probably more full due to the sheer number of them getting whacked. Sega & Taito both shut down quite a few a while back. I can't remember the last time I saw a Namco arcade. Not that I liked it other than going in w/ friends for some bullshitting, but Inti in Shibuya was a staple of my early days in Tokyo.

Sure it's not the end, but the Japans slightly arcade declining process started already a decade ago.

In my home country you may say with good reason, that there are hardly any arcade left. But I woulnd't say that for Japan.

    Ass-ember-ler games.

    The Ring of Fire indeed.

In other news, a friend of a friend has an Indian restaurant in Shinagawa and it's THE BALLS! you should try it - let me talk to MA PEOPLES and see if we can get a NERD DISCOUNT!

Alternatively, we could include a visit in some sort of Assembler "meat up" (that's not an error) - i am at least interested in meeting... some of you! :D (okay, so some of you are friends of a mutual friend, that makes it less of a gamble!)

(actually, you know what - i have met in excess of 80 or so people in Japan from various internet sites and i can honestly say only two turned out to be complete fucking gimps (JAPJAC and MD) so my faith in the internet community is pretty good... that probably makes me a fucking milksop idiot, but hey...)

Ever tried Kemboke in Nishi Azabu? Pricey, but good... and difficult to say w/ saying "boner" in Japanese. I'm trying to kick off the summer right though, so have cut out both alcohol and heavy food (for the most part) for the entire month of May. June can't get here quick enough.

    I only eat fish.

    Who is MD?

haha, yup - been there before - insanely good starters! Some of the best i've ever had. Some parallels with the Shinagawa place in that the starters do somewhat out class the mains :D

re: MD - he was pretty active over at NTSC before a serious smack from the ban hammer for welching on some trades and various acts of general bullshit. I met him - he was just a bit too odd. Wanted to talk (read: brag) about his complete Megadrive collection and how mine, obviously, wasn't a complete set (i wasn't aiming for a complete set, but hey!) which obviously made me some sort of dumpster baby prawn cock... or something - what really got weird is we went to an established group meet up, there were females there in the group who would , as friends, happily pose for pictures. He was NINJA SHOTTING them with his PDA camera rather than just asking them for a picture. They saw what he was doing and said "you know, you can just ask and you can take our photos" - but as they were telling him this he basically turned away from them, blanking them out...

... then taking some more ninja shot photos!!! Fucking weird individual. Works on the "Game On!" exhibition - or at least was when he visited way way back in 2004. Perhaps he's different now and grown up a bit more? who knows, frankly too much of my own shit to care about than worry about these peoples social inabilities.

Oh yes, JAPJAC is a right twat! Oh did you know that MD is actually a member here and has been for a few years? He uses a different name of course.

I'd love to meet up for some nerd Indian anda few drinks but I live so far away

I will never, ever understand grown men, or people parading around as them, bragging about their game collections. Shou has the best cheese-off to someone trying to play the whole, "I"m better at Nintendo than you" card.
Click Me. The whole thread is excellent, actually.

EDIT: And sven, of course, w/ the dope sig.
