The forum is back and what better way to start a new post than with some up to date footage from a Japanese gamers arcade. Loads of classics and loads of new stuff oh and a Left 4 Dead arcade game! As with the rules of arcades I couldn't film so it was another Ninja cam moment but the quality and sound isn't bad at all for a stealth video. If you have a powerful computer make sure to watch in 4K resolution as the video was originally filmed in 4K
Not sure why, but I can't select 4K, only 2K. Maybe it's just my computer (although my screen is 1920x1200, so it doesn't even technically support 2K). Anyway, that's all besides the point. This is awesome. And now I'm upset I'm not in Japan all over again. One day! There's an arcade about an hour from my place that actually has a bunch of Japanese games (primarily arcade fighters and beat-em-ups) like those white ones in the video. Still not as cool as an actual Japanese arcade, of course (plus it's very secluded and not HEAPS of people use it. It's also relatively small).
Cool video. I was able to watch it in 1440p on my Macbook, and it looks pretty good. I went to an arcade in my home town yesterday. I played a little of Final Fight, Alien vs. Predator, Waku Waku 7, and some others I can't remember. It's a pretty good arcade. I have a few arcade systems, and I've long contemplated getting a full cabinet - but I just can't afford one. I actually have the space though, it's just a matter of buying the system. I'd like to get an Astro City, as I could use that for both Model 3 games and JAMMA stuff. One day.
Nice video and with very good quality. It's a fact that arcades are still strong in Japan and this video is a good proof.
Well I'm impressed buy my 6 year old MB Pro runs it without problem. Where is that? is that Akihabara? I loved that place SOOOOOOO much. We went there 5 months ago. It's was like the paradise...
Great video Yakumo. It's interesting how the japanese people still love rhythm games. Left 4 Dead arcade was a surprise. And what's the name of that pod game? I think i've seen something like that ages ago, on another video from you. Anyway, i wonder how the place smells, there's ashtrays on every single cabinet PS: What app do you use to shoot those videos without anyone noticing the screen?
Nope, Kokura in Kita Kyushu. About 500 miles away from Tokyo. If you thought Akihabara was great 5 months ago then you should have been there in the mid 90's. Holly shit, that place was booming back then. now it's a sad pathetic shadow of what it used to be. No idea what that Gundam game is called but yeah, it will be the same one that I featured ona video a long time ago. As for the smell, well when you come out your clothes do stink of tabaco but while you are in there you don't really notice it. Very odd. The app I used to film that video was the standard Xperia 4K camera app available on the Z2, ZL2 and Z3 phones. The reason nobody saw the screen as I was filming is because it was pushed against my pocket. With the phone being black and my work clothes also being black it sort of blended in. I normally use an app called Mobile Hidden Camera although it installs as Simple Notepad and has a notepad icon That can't film in 4K without issues though but is fine at 1080p at 60fps on a fast phone. Here's a link to it on the Play Store - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zecurisoft.mhc1411&hl=en
Well, to be honest, it's the bigger arcades that are still surviving in Japan. I think, that the mom and pop stores with some arcade games are dying in droves in rural Japan.... IMO. This observation is because of GCCX and trying to find the arcades/stores that are featured on it. Most of them have closed down.
Those stores move with the trend so I don't really count them as arcades. Many of those places are probably selling mobile phones now in a new location.
There's also Half-Life 2: Survivor, a arcade port of Half-Life 2. It was also ported to PC by some fans since the arcade machines are essentially modified PCs. (it is also really fun as well)
It's nice to see an arcade full of energy and new games... Very rare sight to see. I could see an arcade comeback to some degree considering how gaming has been a contagious monster and all the platforms (mobile, PC, console, TV box, etc) will eventually be one architecture, though it seems like Arcade is mostly a cute afterthought to western devs.
Thanks for the video! Good to see Arcades being alive and well somewhere. The US has an utter lack thereof.
Nice! So smoking is still a big thing in arcades there, then? Yuck! Eastbourne pier burnt down due to a fire last year. It was an electrical fault, I think - not a cigarette. Still - that's a lot of equipment to lose to a fire. I guess you're not going to JAEPO? Kinda far, heh.
I'd very to go to JAEPO but as you say it's kind of far. At least a one and half hour flight to Tokyo from where I live and then there's all the messing about to get to the airport and so on. Not really worth it just for one day. If I could get a few days off work that would be fine.
Very true! Well, it's still got to be better than what's left of a trade show over here. I didn't go this year - to be fair, I probably would have... I just forgot! Oops! Still, the general manager of Sega Amusements is coming to see me next week!
