The disc has no scratching, it's minty fresh. I'm using a Japanese Dreamcast and it boots up to the SEGA screen, then the console resets. It doesn't matter what video mode I use either. I play a lot of Dreamcast and it only happens for this one game. Is this a known bug for the Japanese version? google didnt turn up anything in english or japanese.
Maybe the laser len become weak? Try clean lens with something soft and try again run the game. Sometimes happen to me often on Sega Rally 2 game.
I constantly have problems with the PAL ChuChuRocket. Every other game, including the discs that were rattling around with the console when I bought it (and thus are scratched up good and proper) play fine. But ChuChuRocket? Takes about 15 attempts to get started. :/
I had a similar problem with the first disc of Shenmue, would occasionally boot but almost always had issues. No scratching or any visible damage. Was a complete pain as I would forget, play for about an hour and then it would crash leaving me midway through a task without being able to save it!
I haven't even gotten the game to boot once. The Dreamcast just restarts immediately after the "Produced or licensed by Sega" logo disappears. Then it tries to boot again leaving it in an infinite loop.
Could it be something as simple as video connection? I only ask because when I bought my first Japanese DC just after launch the scart lead that I bought with it wouldn't let me play PenPen TriIcelon, I was getting exactly the same thing as you, screen just bouncing back to the boot sequence and splash screen. I switched to using component lead the unit came with and it worked perfectly. Friends also had similar problems with the JPN release of Street Fighter Zero 3 too, again on Japanese units and the problems all stemmed from how their machine was connected to the TV. Also, as I'm typing this I've just dug out my PAL Chu Chu Rocket and it's working perfectly on my NTSC_J unit. EDIT: Oops, just noticed the header states Japanese Chu Chu Rocket not working so me testing a PAL one wasn't necessary but I still reckon it's a connection conflict as I mentioned in my first paragraph.
I wonder if some copies of Chu Chu rocket suffer the same or similar problem as Sonic Adventure. A few times I've ran into copies of Sonic Adventure that only work on some dreamcast and not all.
You know, there's no need to be pissy. In your above quote of your first post you've emboldened the line: It doesn't matter what video mode I use either. Video mode and video connection are two very different things. All I was doing was highlighting something I'd had prior experience of, which was identical to your complaint and was a connection issue. Mode doesn't even enter the equation here, a Japanese game is only ever going to display in 60 HZ on a JPN unit, that's where your mode is, it's in the frame rate/speed. Maybe if you'd been a little clearer in the inital post there wouldn't have been this misunderstanding.
You could loose a lot of support on here bein that rude to someone trying to HELP YOU, think about it.
