Recently I have been looking for a clone consoles for my suitable needs. I was thinking of getting a Retro Trio 3, but not totally sold on it. Though recently I have stumble on Japanese clone consoles, that sorta caught my attention because it carries the only two consoles I care about, SFC and FC. http://www.columbuscircle.co.jp/products/?id=1306227400-997062&p=1&ca=7 And it looks like they have a new model coming out with GBA support. http://www.columbuscircle.co.jp/products/?id=1422422443-261101&p=1&ca=7 Has anyone tried these? I'm curious about their performance, and also would be nice to know if they support RGB.
I'm interested too. My only real hesitation is the RGB state of things. Found an import site with the SFC Compact System available for import. http://www.nin-nin-game.com/en/japa...cessories/13566-sfc-compact-brand-new-en.html
They are just the same as all the other shit out there. If you've played any western clone system then you've played these too.
Do these work by just ripping and running rom images from the carts? Not sure if there is any truth to it but saw someone say that was bad for the cart.
I'm still thinking of getting a RetroN 5 but my lil brother wouldn't let me sell the SupaBoy v2.0 lol or do you think i should get a Super Retro Trio?
Apart from the SRAM (save games), everything in a cart is read-only, so doubtful. Only things I can think of that would damage a cart would be overvoltage or maybe the edge connector grips the cart too tightly, damaging the pins.
Yeah, tight connectors can damage the cart, especially those cheap ones with soft metal contacts - contacts in connector can bend and damage cart contacts. But i think i know where that urban myth comes from. A very few (one or two very old models) of those emulation-based clone consoles had power switch circuit made very wrong way - when you power the console down there's still a voltage on cart connector. For SFC/SNES carts hot plugging can be fatal. You all know what's happen next - guy kills a cart, blah-blah, yadda-yadda, his friends spread the rumor and it doesn't matter that it's impossible to find those consoles anymore. Ripping in general is just reading - normal operation, cartridge is designed for this. Of course it's different for arcade PCBs with soldered ROMs and other stuff like that,a lot of stuff can go wrong in that case - overheating, mechanical damage, static discharge etc and the most stupid thing - when with all precautions against static electricity etc guy just plugs ROM chip in programmer socket the wrong way...
