I was wondering what the cost of HDTV's are in Japan? I know, depending on the brand here in the US, prices vary. I currently have a 37" VIZIO that cost less than 1k and can display up to 1080p resolution and looks GREAT with my PS3 and HDMI cable.

I'm planning on taking my PS3 with me to Japan in a few months but I was wondering about how compatible it would be? I assume since most electronics in the US come from Japan (especially TV's) it shoulnd't be a problem. But I'm curious about price and compatibility.

Also, most outlets here in the US now are three prong (at least for new TV's and gaming systems), are they three prong as well in Japan or is everything still two prong? I'm bringing extra power strips just in case.

Just replace the kettle/PC lead for a two pin Japanese lead.

Using HDMI would mean you don't have to worry about any weird signal problems. Also as all the games are region free and Japan and America share the same Blu-Ray region, you don't have to worry about buying anything while you are there.

That's a HUGE plus then concerning games and blu-ray movies...phew. But DVD's are another story correct? Do shops there sell any import dvds?

DVD's wouldn't work as Japan is region 2 and America is region 1.

    As for shops, no idea.

Japanese HDTVs are not that much different to the cost they are in America. Still I have a nice Sharp Aquos waiting for me when I go back to Japan. :)

I have a PS3 and use HDMI with it.

Your best bet is Yahoo Auctions. And the expat community. In shops you'll only find region 2. A lot of adult videos are region 0 though. :D

In other words: just get a DVD player while you're there. Decent ones can be had for around 4000 Yen already.

Says the man with the years of experience of buying adult dvds. :110:

You can probably pick up a Sony Playstation for less then 10,000 Yen, hell you could buy an Xbox for less then 5,000 Yen and get the remote and play DVDs, failing that just decrypt and reburn them. :p

Buy from amazon US. Bloody cheap with the exchange rate and so on. I get all my DVDs from Amazon to play on my region free DVD player. Works out cheaper than paying 3000+ for a movie in Japan.

Japanese releases of Western movies seem to be following suit in terms of price (3500-4000). Anime? Still fucking sky high.

Thanks for all the replies :)

I know my PS3 will play Region 1 DVD's since it is the American model so any I take with me will play on that. I might invest in a region free DVD player however, sounds like a smart plan.

Oh and about buying off of Amazon, I usually buy enough off of there to get free shipping, but not sure how that works for those living outside of the US? How much are shipping costs when you order from Japan and about how long do they usually take to arrive?
