I took a video in the local game center the other day which you can see here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6a_cAfEVFg Some interesting games to see including some crazy cube looking music game. Sadly the video was taken on the iPhone so the image quality isn't so hot plus it's quite shaky too. Yakumo
Neat. Man if I lived near an arcade like that I would be in there every weekend my wife is stuck working (like this lovely long 3 day weekend, today is a holiday but my wife is still working). Also the crazy music game is Jubeat http://system16.com/hardware.php?id=918&gid=18631#18631 -edit- I forgot to mention. I make due with my home arcade collection. At the moment it's all System246/256 stuff so Tekken 5, most gundam Vs games, Soul calibur 2, few others.
THey are a network Gundam battle game. Basically inside you have the gundam sytle cockpit with a wrap around screen. Pretty cool when I first saw them a few years back.
There is a PSP port of that gundam game If you're curious to see what they play like with out the best part about it. =( http://www.gundam-kizuna.jp/english/index.html < arcade version
Hehe, just like I thought, got the feeling it was one of those Gundam super arcades. Nice!! :-0:-0 Would love to try one of those
Ah i know that cube game it's called Ju beat it's one of the newer konami bemani games however it will never get a home release due to each button been a screen. Loved the vid, needs more taiko no tatsujin arcade machines though hehe. Thanks for sharing.
Sometime this week i'm getting the software kit for taiko no tatsujin 9. Just have to figure out a way to hack up a PS2 or Wii Drum controller into a JVS Analog device so I can play it. =D
Awesome da don Post pics if your successfull, im guessing you'd have more luck with a ps2 tatacon as the wii one uses the remote to connect to the plug so might be harder to get working. Saying that i'd have no idea on where to start hacking one of those but i admire your determination.
Talking to someone who tried and gave up. It won't be an easy task. It seems the arcade version uses analog sensors for each contact point. To me this sort of makes sense but you would think with a rhythm game you'd want the accuracy you get with digital. Now where the difficulty comes in is supposedly the PS2 drum pad is digital and not analog. This is kind of odd since on the PS2, each face button is analog and not digital like ps1 & ps3. So i'll have to get someone help me build a digital to analog converter then get an analog harness for my JVS board to plug it in. I think once the bulk of the work is figured out it will be an easy process to build. -edit- There is also talk between me and other person on maybe to just build a PS2 Pad to Analog harness converter. That way there is no need to hack up a controller and one can simply just be plugged into the converter box.
Pretty cool. It's a disgrace when you compare arcades in the US to places like that. Even the biggest arcade I've ever been to in the US wasn't as cool as the one in this video. I guess part of that is just the fact that Japan gets a lot of games that we don't get in the US, though.
I thinm that this video just goes to show that arcades are not dead all over the world. In Japan you have the famliy bright arcades and then these smokey dark arcades for the hardcore gamer  Yakumo
Funny (but true) story: I went to a little (kinda sketchy) arcade/pool hall in Atlanta, GA where a few bands were playing. The music was great, and they even had some pretty good games (Battle Gear 2 for instance, say what you want but I like that game). It was just kind of a surreal experience - you don't often see bands perform in arcades.
