Ooh, thank you for the topic.

I just want to say, that if I can get my foot into the Taito (now Sq-En) offices, I definitely want to bother someone about the topic of the Taito WoWoW. Sadly I suspect they probably threw everything out when they moved offices after the buyout. :(

That's my problem with Kickstarter too. Would've backed many more projects if only there was an option to pay without a CC.

Agreed Amazon payments is by far one of the worst services I've ever had the displeasure of signing up for I'm going to try emailing the project starter and see if he'd be willing to add paypal as an option.

    I'm the project starter. :)

I think I got your message. Or at least, I got a message from someone asking about PayPal. It seems worth reposting part of it here:

I've never dealt with Amazon Payments. What problems have people had with them?

Technically, this being a UK based Kickstarter, I don't *think* it uses Amazon Payments. Actually, I read somewhere that a lot of UK Kickstarters were disappointed that people in the US were reluctant to back them, because they couldn't use AP. You have to use a separate system, utilising your credit card, which isn't AP.

A friend linked me to this article... Gimme a second. I'll go digging for it.

Apparently Amazon payments is absolutely NOT used on this project, because it's based in the UK! At least, I think so.

Yeah the message you got on KS regarding Paypal was from me, if I would have known that you was also a member here I wouldn't have sent a message through kickstarter, I guess you learn something new every day ;).
Yeah that's actually a good idea as it gives everyone a better understanding of how UK based KS projects work.

One of the biggest problems with Amazon Payments is if you sign up and they think any part of the personal info you put into their system is wrong (even when you've been signed up for the normal Amazon site for over 2 years and use the exact same info to sign up for payments), they'll restrict the functionality of your account to where you can't use it and their customer service won't do jack to help you fix the problem.
From what I've read you're correct UK based KS doesn't use Amazon payments (which works for me :))
That's understandable to a degree, giving your credit card info to anyone carries a big risk, so I can see why some people are reluctant to do so.
If Amazon payments isn't used on this project I'll try to back it, thanks for clearing a few things up John and best of luck with your project.

Edit: Just tired pledging for the Silver Print and Digital and it seems to have worked yay.

I am US based and would certainly be more comfortable with AP and PP both being options instead of just the CC directly.

Wish you'd have all 3 options available for everyone to choose from that way it gives everyone the way they prefer to pay. But who knows if that'd be actually feasible.

Anywho, best of luck with the KS John! I hope it is successful!

I can tell you right now Paypal would not be feasible because KS refuses to allow Paypal as a payment option (despite the amount of backlash they've gotten over that rule).

Thanks for the replies. That sucks about AP. As an Amazon buyer, I'd be worried by that too!

Along with the video, there should be a detailed breakdown of costs about halfway down the page, with very rough conversion rates from Yen to £Pounds / $Dollars. (Best to check XE for the latest)

I'm highly skeptical on this project. Can you elaborate on how you will make this a success seeing that you aren't in Japan, don't seem to have an extensive background on Japanese gaming or dev contacts?

I recommend you read the Project starters bio and the project updates a bit more carefully, John's not some random person who just came out of thin air trying to do this, he's a well established and respected gaming journalist who has written for many gaming publications with over 9 years of experience in the industry, 3 books written and over 100 interviews under his belt.

Bu bu bu but I do have Japanese contacts! Lots of them! Maybe I've been promoting this wrong - I had hoped my credentials would prove my ability in this.

I don't think you've been promoting this wrong John, quite the contrary your credentials show that you are not only more than qualified to do something like this but are also trustworthy and honest, @Shou if John was some random guy doing this, then I would understand being skeptical, but again with over 9 years of experience in the industry writing for many gaming publications, 3 books written and over 100 interviews under his belt, if these credentials aren't enough for someone to trust John, then IDK what is.

This is quite the interesting project. I'll have to look at my funds later and see if this will fit in. As for the whole paypal thing I find the exact opposite I'm sick of stumbling on to things that only accept paypal. I'll happily type my credit card number into this since I don't have paypal any more.

I can understand why you don't want to use Paypal but think of it this way, if KS would allow BOTH Amazon payments and Paypal as payment options I wouldn't have a reason to complain, but since KS only allows Amazon payments and refuses to add Paypal support, how's that even remotely fair to those of us who've been screwed over by Amazon payments and can only use Paypal (not counting non-US projects that allow you to use your CC like this project)?

Caveat w/ this project: Any game developer worth being interviewed, most likely already has been (many times over). There is also a very in depth Japanese book on the subject. A much more worthwhile kickstarter would be a professional translation of this rather daunting book.
