Well, I've gotten all moved in and I've got a few questions when it comes to setting up a household in Japan. I'm from Australia, but rather than trying to do the square peg, round hole thing, I thought I'd ask a few natives (or at least people who have lived in Japan for a long time) about how Japanese households are suppose to be setup. Here we go! 1) Where is medication suppose to be stored? There's no medicine cabinet or drawers in the bathroom. 2) Where are things like my toothbrush, razer, toothpaste, contact lenses etc suppose to be kept? The closest I can think of of the little mirror with shelf that's stuck to the wall inside the bathroom, but it's kinda small. 3) Where are cleaning supplies (washing powder, toilet cleaner etc) kept? I don't have any storage under the sink. 4) Where is food (the non-refrigerated kind) suppose to be kept? I don't have a pantry or anything. Thanks guys!
Well, the issue is I have ideas about these things, but they don't line up with what's actually in front of me. Which makes me think I'm not doing it the way it's suppose to be.
Sounds like you live in a small place. Even the gaijin house I lived in had a small pantry in the cooking area to store food. Go to Ikea or Muji and buy some storage.
Dunno about "reform" but Debito's page is always enlightening: http://www.debito.org/housebuilding.html
Thanks Both. yeah, we'd have went with the original house builder but they were a victim of the last economic dip :/ Things have moved quite significantly on this though in the last 24 hours and now wife and I are talking about possibly buying another house \(),.
