Johnny Marr likes Ogre You Asshole!, so I've heard anyway.

    Then there's this delightful chap.

Warm, fuzzy feelings inside to anyone who knows who he is.

    Crazy Ken Band for Rock/Jazz/Pop
    Gagle for Rap
Cornelius and some YMO for Electro
SA, COBRA and The Cromagnons for Punk
    aiko for, yes, J-Pop

I find it really hard to find good non-mainstream Japanese music. For some time I used to check out newcomers or wannabe artists on muzie.jp but it's even harder to find something decent there although there can be some nice surprises.
Would love to get some recommendations for Electronic Music.

GP, anything worth mentioning out there?

Rei Harakami is a good Japanese Electronic artiste. Check out his album Red Curb. I'm sure you won't regret it.

Casiopea do some good Jazz Fusion, check out their debut LP, fantastic bass player, listen to Time Limit if nothing else.

And if you like metal, then IKD-SJ are quite good. (They did some of the music for Forbidden Siren too!)

Sorry, but anyone who's name stands for "Best of Asia", has their head up their anus.

While I'll admit alot of J-pop artists are very good singers. The music altogether is just terrible stuff marketed to schoolgirls.

When it comes to female Japanese singers. This is all I'll say: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQ6Sk8Aj-SQ&feature=related

[EDIT] I just realised I sound like some kind of "smash the system" idiot in this post.

    That link is ironic.

I love Jō Hisaishi, his music is simply amazing, I listen at least one of his albums per day.
