Japanese react to "But We Are Japanese!"

    Well that's to be expected really since America is the largest single economy on the planet and Japan is a predominately homogeneous nation whereas America is a nation of relatively recent immigrants.

    Yeah... so that's why Japanese ignorance is more excusable/understandable.
    All I was saying originally was that I don't think Japanese people are generally xenophobic. If anything a lot of people are xenophilic. When people do come across as racist it's generally down to genuine ignorance. Less so when it comes to Chinese people, but still.

    I have been subjected to what I would consider to be racism in Japan, one event last year in particular has stuck in my mind and has actually made me carefully reconsider the role that Japan might play in my future.

    I generally tend to give them a wide berth though because they are such a monoculture compared with what I am used to. In my ways, I think I have actually faced more obvious and intentional cultural bias and singling out during my time in the US and Canada rather than Japan.
