I seem to get the impression that most Japanese ROMs won't work on the EverDrive with an American Sega Genesis unless they are manually patched before loading onto the SD card. Is this true, and if so, can the EverDrive firmware or OS be updated so that it will play all ROMs regardless of their region coding? I gotta be able to play Devil Crash MD!
It's not a big deal. Alot of games don't have region coding. And any that do can be patched manually. EverDrive may be able to try to auto patch this but you can always manually patch it. And any popular game would definitely have a patch made if someone wanted it. Thing is though if you have the big rom sets these already liked exist with something like [f1] in their file name. Like Alien Soldier does.
I was trying to remove region lock from Thunderforce 4 but it's CRC routine made me pull hairs out... :-0
Did the game not just lockup in a loop and instead do something clever like break the game in other ways?
Just curious, what region didn't have it's own Thunder Force 4 release or why did you need to region hack it?
I think just adding a JAP/ENG switch mod to the genesis is much easier than having to deal with ROM patching etc. Personally I have a PAL Mega Drive 1, with added ENG/JAP and PAL/NTSC switches.
Hi I have the same PAL mega drive 1, but unmodded console and I am interested in doing this mod. However, can I ask you, since you have an MD1, do you use RGB/AV cable or RF switch? Did you do the Stereo mod also? I better do this mod otherwise I won't have full screen at 60hz for my NTSC roms on the everdrive
