Hello! I imported a nice white Sega Saturn and a few games and need some advice. I'd like to know what particular stepdown transformer I should use so I don't blow it up and if possible, what available RGB cables are out there so I can get a clean image on the CRT. Thanks.
The Jap Saturn uses 12 watt, so buy a stepdown converter with that. I always use http://retrogamingcables.co.uk/ for RGB cables.
Those RGB cables will work fine on a UK RGB SCART TV port? I recall reading something about the wiring on PS1 SCART's that are different and can blow up!
We use 240v here in the UK and Japan uses 100v, so I believe that you would need a 240v-100v step-down. Or you might be able to replace the internal PSU with one from a PAL console.
Never heard of that for the PS1. I know NTSC SNES SCART cables wired for C-Sync on a PAL SNES is a bad idea. The Saturn also has the same issue so don't mix C-Sync wired cables with PAL Saturn consoles. The PAL C-Sync cable they have uses a sync stripper. The one you need is their C-Sync cable for NTSC consoles. Just don't use it on a PAL Saturn.
I don't have a PAL Saturn and don't fancy buying and hunting down the right model just to take it's power supply out. I don't mind using a step-down. I've got a JP N64 also so I can use it with that as well, again without finding a working PAL N64 power brick. I take it the 1000 WATT variant of that linked step down converter is good for the job? Key being the 2 inputs so I can hook both consoles up and leave them plugged in without switching in and out.
The Saturn uses 12W, the Nintendo 64 uses 19W. It's recommended to buy a converter with 50% more wattage than required, so you'd only need 50W even if you had both consoles running at the same time. You could always buy a US/Japanese 2 pin extension lead if you wanted to add more sockets. My stepdown converter can output 100V via a UK plug, so I just use a UK extension and £1 shaver adapters if I want to plug in multiple consoles.
There's also that guy who is doing Saturn PSU replacements, but I don't know if he got finished units yet. But a stepdown is more useful, because it can be used with other consoles too.
Step down is more useful if you are likely to get more machines. I have a 1k step up/down as I do (or did) repairs. But it was only an offer. Doesn't make any difference to me
I use something like this with my sfc, x'eye and saturn: https://www.ebay.com/itm/HQ-Voltage...718290&hash=item239d615697:g:qKgAAOSw-NFavSKd works like a charm.
I already ordered the 2-socket 1000 WATT US-TRONIC model. I thought if I'm buying something like this then I may as well get something industrial, built to last that'll serve me for many years. I can use it for all sorts going forward. I just need to wait for the SCART cable to come into stock... Just to double check: It's the NTSC SCART, but with the EURO SCART output I'm looking for, yes? I want to play imports (U.S.) as well. Is the 4m action replay cart compatible with any region console?
