Japanese scep 5500 PS1 replacing the poweruspply with european SCEP 5502?

Some questions since i am not an export on this. I imported japanese ps1 and used an euro plug adapter but the adapter failed and my console seemed to smoke. I dont know if only the power supply is brokken or the whole console so i ordered a european psx version 5502 to use the european power supply on my console. Do you think it should work? The european version uses a euro plug like this which is missing in my order as i have looked at information

 

Yes will work no problem.
Please take care with handling the power pcb as you can get shocked with the caps.

 

You can use power supply also from scph 7002,7502 and 9002.

 

For Japanese and USA console you need to use a 110v step down transformer. The smoke will have been the large cap on the power pcb blowing up, replacing that should fix it (you can tell which component it is as the top will be sticking up). I've done it before by mistake (I thought I'd picked up a PAL console from the pile) & that was the only component that was destroyed.

You can use any figure 8 cable, it makes no difference. UK PS1's came with cables with UK plugs, European consoles came with cables with euro plugs (the UK yaroze came with a euro plug and a UK converter). If you're using a Japanese/USA console with it's original power supply then a cable with a US plug is useful as that is what the step down converter will need.
