http://widgets.yahoo.com/widgets/japan-railway-station-melodies For those not living in Japan, those station melodies that get stuck in your brain. - widget app - can select any station you like - clicking plays the station address, or door closing sound fun applet
This does remind me of this page which has most lines in Japan, the station names, the melodies, pictures of the stations and quite a lot of useful information....
You can also buy little electronic keychains shaped like train station signs, which play their station's melody at the push of a button. (They don't appeal to me, however.)
Once I came home from Japan I instantly tracked down all the melodies from Keihin Touhoku-sen which was the train I had to use everyday. These jingles were burned into my brain. I haven't listened to the MP3s for maybe 1 year now but they are still perfectly present in my head. Maybe this is some sort of brainwashing technique? Making you addicted of riding JR trains? ^^ ps: Good page to download these jingles: http://ori.oc.to/line/keihin/index.htm dimdimdimdim dim dada didim... dumdumdum dada didim dada didom... ichiban-sen go chuui kudasai! doa wa shimarimasu. go-chuui kudasai. (Kamata) The first the word I learned must have been go-chuui
