So I just picked myself up one of them see-through Japanese Xboxes because I thought it looked so sexy.

Picked up Innocent Tears for it and N.U.D.E.

Are there essential games I need to be looking for? What's going to make me glad I bought this thing?

I've seen the first Galaxy Angel game for it, though it's also available for PS2. If I had a Japanese Xbox, I'd get it.

Also, Metal Wolf Chaos - pretty cool over-the-top shooter.

Are you talking Japan exclusives? There's not a lot out there, I'm afraid. Muzzle Flash comes to mind, haven't played it though. Otherwise, you should get Jet Set Radio Future obviously.

As far as JPN-region exclusives go, Shin Megami Tensei Nine is worth a look. Standard collecting RPG that imagines the Persona monsters as Pokemon sidekicks in an urban setting. Not ported to any other platform as far as I know.

Wreckless: The Yakuza Missons. Flawed but massively playable and a shitload of fun. Toejam & Earl 3 too.

I think that Magatama is quite good and Panzer Dragoon Orta is a must (in any format ^_^).

Metal Wolf Chaos - it's a Japanese exclusive and maybe the most valuable commercial jpn Xbox game. Plays a bit like Mech Assault, but with a bit of humor and crazy missions.

Seconded the recommendation for Wreckless. It's called "Double S.T.E.A.L." in Japan.

Muzzle Flash is pure crap! Period!

For JPN exclusive there were a few - petite copter(?), flight academy(?), yukikaze(?) to name few off my head

Metal Wolf Chaos - where else you can be a president AND pilot the mecha suit... ^ ^

Dead or Alive 3.1 is the probably the best version of DOA in the last decade and region locked to Asian consoles. I would highly recommend it.

So is DOA 3.1 just DOA 3 in Japan? Or is it something different?

Also curious about the DOA 3.1 ;-) For some reason I always liked 3 better than 4. I assume it just means more costumes?

DOA4 is personally my favorite in the series. They all pretty much play the same (more or less), but DOA4 is the prettiest.

    Yes, it's the Japanese/Asian version of DOA3.

There's a handful more costumes but the real meal is the new moves and move properties. DOA3 was rushed for the North American launch in November of 01. A more complete and much better version was released with the Japanese launch the following February.

There's a full list of changes here: http://www.freestepdodge.com/threads/changes-made-from-doa3-0-doa3-1.129/

A good visual guide on combos only possible in 3.1 as well as some of the differences can be found here, here and here.

Unfortunately it's one of the worst playing, next to the recently released 3DS version which is basically a port of DOA4, but I don't want to take the topic too far off.

Just try and get a copy of the Asian/JPN DOA3 if possible. =)

Not a problem. DOA 3 is everywhere for like 5 bucks.

If your getting any of the DOA series , you might aswell get the DOA ultimate to complete the set, you actually only need one disc as both are actually mirrored with a xbe that just selects the other game.

If your looking outside of NTSC-J, Breakdown and Conker live and reloaded jumps to mind, then the normal load like forza motor sports and black.

The most valuable XBOX game in JP is Fatal Frame 2, routinely goes for $250. Fatal Frame 1 is 2nd at around $140. MWC, SF Anniversary Collection and Splinter Cell Chaos Theory are probably in the next tier of pricing at around $70-90.
