Hey everyone, I tried a search and couldn't find anything. I'm looking for .jar applications and games for my K850i cell phone. I've done some googling but it's very sketchy browsing for this kind of stuff now, like digging in a virus mine field. I was hoping someone here happened to have some of these sitting on a hard drive or something. I've reverted to this phone for my daily driver and would be cool to install some stuff on it. Thanks!
Thanks, there is a lot of games on that site. Not any applications it seems though. Trying to find the newest versions of things like Opera mini, Google Maps, and curious about what else is out there too.
Yeah, using this thing is like a blast to the past. I actually am liking it quite a bit, the compact size, the simple software that tries so hard to be flashy. Reception seems waaay better than smart phones too, I can actually hold a call through my whole house. I haven't been able to do that with any smart phone. No more outside calls for me! I was even browsing this website using Opera mini, was able to post in the shoutbox and everything. Poor G3 is just sitting there. It's nice to mix things up, I barely use smart phone features most the time anyway.
I know what you mean! :O I had this old samsung flip phone that I was able to 'sideload' j2me files on, I ran into some odd issues such as networking code not initializing correctly, or anything that uses a file system to freeze the application.
There was definitely some setup required for me to get the internet fully working. The new phones do pamper you in that way. Luckily it's only the once. I haven't had any freezing yet. I do wish I had the flip though, god I miss answering and hanging up calls with one of those!
Java games were pretty nice sometimes. Can you still buy any, or are the portals closed? Networks like Verizon / Vodafone used to have eShops for them. Does your network not offer one of those booster box things? They work via the Internet. I believe you can even get signal boosters in the US, but they're illegal in the UK. There's also the TuGo app on some networks (or similar) - but be wary of the fact it seems to work in unison with your phone and it installs as a system app on Android, so there's no removing it (unrooted)! Yes, when I put it on my phone, my phone rang twice - the phone played my ringtone and the app went ring ring.. both competed to be on top for actually answering!
Unfortunately there's only one carrier in this country that used to offer a wifi booster box thing, but they advertised it for like a year and then it seemed to disappear. It wasn't on my carrier anyway. Otherwise I've been eyeing up those cell boosters, just haven't gotten around to spending the $400 or whatever they want for a decent one. It is tempting though.
A little dusty but not bad. I have been wondering that for awhile now. I once ran across an article that said that you can install and run apps on a SIM card. If I remember correctly they where talking about .jar apps, that what we are talking about here?
Just installed latest gmail, opera mini and yandex maps on one of these cellphones. Google helped me.
Not really, these are installed onto an SD card on the phone or internal phone memory. Only stuff I've stored on a SIM are contacts. Yandex eh, is it better than google maps? I tried googling, but I may have tried the wrong things, I was just going through old java websites, sketchy as hell, lol.
Thing with google maps is it usually comes with Sony Ericsson firmware, if the phone has GPS. But finding the standalone jar online isn't that easy. Couldn't find anything reliable so I opted for Yandex maps instead, as I am native russian speaker.
I have some old backup discs from about 10 years ago, surely there're some jar apps and games between them. I'll let you know if I find anything useful.
I found a jar app, but I'm convinced it's not a the latest version, it doesn't seem very good. I can send it if you want it. That would awesome, thanks man
no it's ok. i figured out the particuar phone i installed it on doesn't even have gps. so i can only view maps but not show my position. yandex is good enough for that.
Yeah mine doesn't have GPS either. I figure if I wanted to look up an address it could be handy, that's really about it.
Yes, especially with malware today, trying to find Java JAR files is like trying to find gold in a landmine.... =P http://java.mob.org/ and http://gallery.mobile9.com/c/240-320-mobile-java-games/1/ Seem to be valid sites for Java games...... I tried to find old Java games because I was trying to find the history/information of this China made Castlevania SOTN clone (Castle of Shadows) from way back and I found it after a lot of weaving and waving... And made a Youtube video about it too. =P
Downgraded from a rather high end Android phone to an old S60 over half a year ago. The only thing I miss a bit is my shopping list app, but I make do with a text file instead, not perfect but works well enough. On the other hand the battery on this thing lasts incredibly long, no more app- and security updates all the time, and it's a lot smaller (note that even my old phone was comparatively "small" (for a smartphone) at 4.2'', and they don't even seem to make that size any more today - give it a few years and we're back to the late-80s luggable-carphone form factor, just with a 4K screen on the side. No thank you). If going online isn't too much of an issue, I'd try maps.google.com through Opera Mini for this.
