The reason why he's getting support from fellow journsliasts is because of the implications this could hold. Many parts of the public fear the media is a front for advertising, doesn't tell the truth, etc. And this is a strike against journalists only helping to prove the masses correct.

Even if this is not true, so many "fans" and non-fans are hyping this up to be something that could be so much more than what it really is. A writer got canned suddenly to some people's shock and dismay.

I think people are supporthing what this seemingly stands for, even if he was fired on other grounds, which is probably the real case.

This is a way to emphasize that freedom of speech in all sorts of journalism is something to be respected, in my view.

Absolutely. The illusion of impropriety is just as bad as the actual act.

Obviously, but honestly at this point in game journalism, this reaction is too little, too late...

Seems like Jeff and Eidos are becoming Scapegoats.

This could be a turn for the better for most gaming companies though.

Maybe they'll think "HEY LETS GET SERIOUS AND MAKE GOOD GAMES! We need to stop lying by telling everyone our shitty game isn't shitty and suing people for giving our shitty game a bad review!"

Not just Eidos, but this could apply to several game companies.

Speaking of which, does anyone knows how this game is doing at retail?

Cuz bad reviews dont mean shit for companies when the money comes flowing in...

This isn't the first time Edios has misrepresented reviews for their games. EGM busted them over using their review score on the box of the GC Hitman 2 when the score was for a different system and forced them to remove it from future copies.

Someone probably figured they could get away with the review of a port off another system. That's still not as bad as making up a star rating and crediting it to a publication that doesn't even use them.
