I just picked up a supposedly broken jasper, the sticker on on it claimed it booted to an e68 error.

I didn't come with anything cables, harddrive, or power supply etc. I'm new to 360's so my knowledge is pretty slim. I know its a jasper based upon the power voltage requirements and the connector itself. I went to the local thrift store and picked up a power supply and controller. Low and behold it booted right to the dash. Everything seems to have been wiped.

The free memory shows 226meg. So does this mean its a jasper 256? It also has dash 9199 installed. And the factory seal hasn't been broken :)

I want to install some type of rgh/jtag/rjtag etc.

Doing some basic research it seams the rgh1 is the way to go? I don't plan on getting online with the unit so I don't need the dual nand. What are best options? Would boot times be better than one or the other?

I guess my first step is to get the nand dumped. Is the lpt the best way to do this?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm a 360 noob :) I just want to make sure I do the right things to this unit.

Edit: doing some more research, it seems rgh1 is the best thing to do. And since I have a 256meg nand it makes sense to get a jr programmer and a cool runner 3 lite. Does that sound right?

LMAO!! The E68 is a broken hard drive! You just got a great deal on a great console.

You seem to have already answered your own question. I don't even think that jtags are possible on Jaspers as they were released after the NXE dashboard, iirc. Post NXE dashboards are not jtag-able. You'll want RGH anyway. They are more reliable albeit a bit more expensive.

All phats are/were jtagable, it's just the Jasper came out when the last of the Jtagable dashes were available. It had at least 6712 on it. NXE came out with dash 7357 and the last jtagable dash was 7371. So there was a grand total of 3 NXE dashes that could be Jtaged. (My Xenon was on 7371 so I barely made it). That being said, RGH is the available option for the OP.

Okay, it's been quite awhile since I was knowledgeable about the finer points, but I knew that the 9199 was no longer able to jtag. I guess I should've just said that!

well really a jtag is more reliable than the RGH, the RGH is a good second choice though

basically jtags boot faster (although boot times with the RGH are pretty good now days) and don't need any extra chips just a few diodes

other than that they are pretty much the same

but for the OP RGH is the only option anyways

anyway to the OP, you will need to flash the coolrunner too so you would likely be better off getting the JR programmer too, but some sellers can flash them before sending and then you could stick to just using LPT if you only plan on doing the 1 console and dont mind the wait

Thanks for all the advice everyone.

I decided to pick up a jr programmer v2, coollrunner 3 lite and the qsbs (just to make the install look clean)

These pieces are so cheap, it almost makes no sense to even deal with the lpt. I ordered everything from aliexpress so i'll have a little bit of a wait but no biggie. Also thinking about picking up a 1tb drive to drop in.

    Edit.

Since the unit didn't come with a harddrive I ordered one and just got it. No really issues there but when I formatted it, I also formatted the internal memory. Low and behold I actually have a jasper 512. I have no idea what the difference between the 16/256/512 models are but the bigger the number the better right ;-)
