Just 1 Saturn Shmup....

I'm curious as to the replys here.
So You can Only have 1 Saturn Shmup What is it?

I was in a situation where I was shopping on a storefront on Amazon where very few Saturn Shmups were less than $80

The 1 shmup I picked up was Dodonpachi but I plan to get Battle Garegga and Blast Wind at some point.

But I'm going against my own rule here.

1 Saturn Shmup...

 

Hm, from what I've seen, I'd probably go with Dodonpachi as well, such great soundtrack.

I only have a couple SS Shoot'm ups now

 

PAL Parodius. Cute and accessible, with less over the top humor later sequels have. One of the few ways to see Fantastic Journey in English for a console.

 

Radiant Silvergun. If I could only have one, it would be that game hands down.

 

Battle Garegga is the best shmup on Saturn, much better than RSG. Dodonpachi is great too, but just look at how screwed up the graphics are compared to the arcade.

 

I am not a RSG fan AT ALL. I don't hate it but the game is so overrated it's hilarious.
what I paid for it on XBLA is about what I'd pay for a physical copy.

I know Dodonpachi isn't 100% arcade perfect but I think the extras make up for it.

Interesting how many Saturn Shmups aren't arcade perfect when in reality there's no reason that any shump shouldn't be Arcade perfect.

I'm curious as to what Yakumo's answer will be. I agree with him 99% of the time.

 

When I have all the Saturn's Shoot'n ups in a couple years I come back to give my definitive answer

 

It's a hard choice between Layer Section and Soukyugurentai.

I don't get your reponse either. Raystorm is a good game too, but Layer Section / Rayforce is brilliant, especially for the price. Even the xxx$ PCB is still worth getting.

Anyway, if you judge Radiant Silvergun and play it in the same amateur-ish way as dodonpachi Daioujou, then you are not qualified to have an opinion on it.

I get my Ray games mixed up. I meant to say Rayforce but though rayforce was Raystorm.

My favorite game ever (and that's potentially the world record for it, as no one on shmups.com is even close). And I say this despite my feeling that Radiant Silvergun is the best game ever made.

And that's coming someone who once owned every shooter on the Saturn and 1CC'd almost half of them.

As for RS being overrated:

That's pretty much spot on.

 

I don't have an answer because I don't like this type of question. But I will tell you that RSG is way over rated. If I really had to choose one Saturn shooter it would probably be DoDonpachi or Batsugun.

I don't have to choose one though because I own all Saturn shooters :dance:

I really want Layer Section. I've never played the Saturn version, but I've played the arcade version (Gunlock/Rayforce) and it's one of my favorite shmups - even though I'm not that big into shmups these days. I still need a good excuse to tate my PVM. I kinda wish I hadn't sold ESPgaluda.
