My gf is moving in so shes been on my back to get my consoles all organized. I drew some plans up in sketch up and went to town. This is the final outcome. I still need to do some more sanding and then decide on stain or paint. I might put a back cover on it as well. But first I'd like to see how well I can control the rats nest of wires that will behind it. But overall I like the way it turned out. What do you guys think?
Like the pine looks good I like that kind of lay out but do you find the tv too high up? I was going to go with a set up like this but I'm a big movie fan and didn't want to be looking up all the time. here is the set up I went with, I'll upload pics soon but for now I think this gives an idea..
I. Am. Not. Jealous. Grrrrrrrrr! Seriously, though, it looks great. But yes, the wires will end up a mess, no matter how carefully you tidy them up when you put them in.
hmm?! is that your custom Y.U.V./R.G.B. dupont switch i see? :smile-new: (central column, second recess down) that's plain and straight to the point. (gf? good excuse. yeah, i know what you mean. want 'it' on tap, FOLD!) thinking of something similar for the new place (i eventually get) but just two recesses high, uniform in height and width, don't want to break my neck staring at screen for the gametime i put in. it will be a double-staged item, the shelf unit upfront, with a hardboard rear panel cut at the relative points for the console wires, and the console rear to sit flush to the panel. the unit ideally will require at least 2' rear clearance to get behind it and perform service...when required.) ikea, but thicker! good stuff. :smile-new:
Nice. Very simple, clean and roomy, I like it. I had sth similar, but my collection outgrew it eventually, so it got left behind when moving. You might want to add doors or drawers to the bottom row, to store accessories etc., that's one of the features of my rack that I especially liked. Regarding a back cover: I'd do that, it makes everything look so much cleaner wrt hiding the cables. If the shelf will be seen from other angles than just the front maybe even add a "second back". (also: dat Gen1 Genesis/CD/32x combo! :jelly:; can't tell what the bottom right, black one is supposed to be - a Wii/WiiU?)
Thanks for all the great feedback. Yep, its a 10 port rgb box. Nothing fancy just a basic dial knob switches the ports. It has a rgb to hdmi converter inside as well. I considered the height, the total height is only 3 feet so it might look taller than it really is. I've wired some units up and there is really zero issues looking up at. The couch I'm using isn't that low either, and just for reference i'm 6' tall. I wont be adding doors, just plans for with expansions My next purchase will be a pc engine. Yeah the black one is a standard wii, (with gamecube ports). My favorite console is the genesis thats why I made it front and centered! Ha, building it was the easy part. Sanding and painting/staining now thats the tough tedious shit right there, and is currently why I haven't done it yet.
awesome! :smile-new: (a piece of quality workmanship, why we never see the like in commerce is beyond me) it occurred to me last night, for the setup i have in mind, i'll require a 4" or 5" impeller, something inline preferably, and a UK mains variable resistor for speed control of the extractor. only one machine would be on still, the shelf area i'm using now gets quite hot if the air isn't shifted. (only the wii runs at the coolest rates this side) great subject posted. (and i spy four ED's, five if the 2600 has one, can't make out any sm's/sd's on top of the cartridge..)
I don't have the harmony yet The 2600 was the first console I've ever owned so I've got plenty of games so it hasn't been a concern. And if I get the harmony it would be more for the factor of leaving my games stored up. But to be honest I rarely play the 2600. You are right about the Everdrives, the NES also has one. And the 3do has the russian usb device installed. The ps3 also has a cobra ODE installed. Pretty much all the consoles are modded one way or another.
NICE! :wink-new: (overlooked the nes, on account of the front loader lid, silly me. :witless: ) good move, ode's are the SANE choice, looking to do my spare BC ps3 (some dill flashed to ofw 3.61) with a spoof at some point in the future, not going near my shit with progskeet/e3 or jtag/rgh stuff. (did get a rgh-360 for free, hardly use it) i bet the combined price of the ode's/cartridge spoofs set you back a chunk?! (comparable to console value even, my n64 ED cost me more alone than the n64 lot i have total, including recent buys) the 3do sounds like it's where it's at, good looking out and keeping her in the game, without having to resort to optical media wear and tear. :smile-new:
Nice job citrus! For the back cover, may I suggest something I've got in my desk which I find quite nice? You put a hard/wooden cover on the back, but leave the lower 1" open. Then you cover that remaining inch in some thin rubbery sheet-like stuff, only attached at the top. It gives it a clean look with no visible hanging wires to and from the TV, and wire easily can be forced under the rubber.
What an awesome setup! Yes cable management can be a bitch lol! I used sticky back cable mounts and cable ties.
Looks awesome! Mine looks like this: What I did, was that I've bought bookshelfs, screwed em´ together, and drilled a small hole in the back of it. Looks pretty decent, I think. All of my consoles are hooked up, to that TV, I just have a couple of different power outlets. It's a horror movie, on the backside though. But I figured, with them all hooked up at once, It's not really gonna be a problem
I've always wanted a console cabinet, thing is, it looks nice, now just wait until you connect all the cables up....unless you already have in which case :O
