Hey all! I go by RetroHungry on YouTube and NintendoAge. I came across a Nintendo Dolphin yesterday at the swap meet and wanted some help out on it. A fellow NA member told me to check out Assembler and so here I am! I'm an off/on game collector/reseller. I've only heard about the Dolphin and never cared to look it up or research up on it till I actually found one. It came with a bunch of software, paperwork and accessories. I booted it up to my TV just to see if it worked and it does! Although I really can't do much with it since I don't have a PC nor am I knowledgeable in this field. Anyways, I guess I'll share some pics of what I got! I tried posting in the Nintendo Development section but I'm still waiting on my post to get approved. So why not share in my introduction! Thanks!
Thanks Johnny! To be honest, I have no clue! The only thing I was able to test out was the Dolphin unit itself and nothing else.
Holy shit, you found all of that in wild? I think that's one of the best finds I saw. IIRC you need Windows 2000 for the software to work. Looking at the sticker, it was an NTSC system upgraded by Ninty to work with PAL games. You're going to need a NPDP cart to get any use out of it or I think you can hook it up to a host PC and stream games to it. Don't remember if the PC card for it was rare or I'm thinking of the card for a different GCN dev machine (the DDH).
Yeah I'm running all my computer needs off an iMac. I don't think I would be able to run any of the software to get this thing going. I honestly just want to get rid of the thing and get things I need but that's why I came here to get a value on things and maybe share some things that people haven't seen before. The paperwork seems most interesting to me. So far I haven't found any info on them so far.
The paperwork does seem to be the most interesting. If you want to sell the stuff, most of it should be rather easy and you should get some nice profit. The only thing that will be hard to sell is the GDEV since the thing is a gigantic and heavy paper weight without a NPDP cart with games (that's what goes in the front slot). The cartridge is basically a laptop HDD partitioned into 4 slots to store 4 in-devlopment games. You change which slot you want by pressing the open/close button on the console (to emulate opening the GCN lid), pressing the disc change up or down button, the pressing the open/close button to emulating shutting the lid. I think the error button dumps crashes to the memory card emulator which the developer would then take the PC for debugging, but don't quote me on that. The dip switches on the front control region (NTSC and PAL are on the first switch I believe and US and JP are on the second for the NTSC setting). The PSP you got is a controller for a PSP dev/test kit. It would connect the kit (which looks like a mini PC tower) and that is where you would insert your UMD game or PSP game burned to a DVD (the tower had 2 drives). Also convenient it has AV out, but so does the retail PSPs. Sadly that thing is also a paper weight without the machine. Here's what a NPDP cart looks like:
That thing is awesome! Too bad there weren't any NPDP carts from that vendor. Yeah I was waiting for the guy to bring out the tower for the PSP dev controller but sadly it never came out. If you were to estimate a value on the stuff I got, what would you say is a fair price to sell for. Not sure if that's appropriate to ask here but worth a shot. Appreciate your help!
For the GDEV $200-300 I think is fair (NPDP carts are $300 even if they are blank; not worth getting one for testing purposes lol), ~$90 for the PSP controller (I usually see them listed at $100 on eBay, but not sure if they sell), the HDD kits maybe ~$75. I'm not sure about everything else since those are rarely for sale around here. I know the USB adapters are worth a pretty penny, but not sure what would be fair for them. You might be able to dig up old marketplace threads to get an idea. The paperwork I have no clue. They could be worthless if they're floating around the internet, or a few bucks if they aren't. Don't think they are worth much though. Pretty sure some other member will chime in and provide better info than what I have.
It would be much easier for you to sell if you had the ODEM PCI card for it. There was some site selling GDEV units for $125 not too long ago iirc.
Thanks again, MSX! You've been really helpful. Yeah I tried going back to the booth yesterday to see what I missed since at the time I had no idea what to look for! I grabbed anything that looked like it was for development. Yeah I heard about that GDEV sale. I'm pretty sure I can still get at least $200+ for it. Just my opinion. As for the other stuff like the memory card emulator and software, any value to it? Sucks I can't really sell yet on this site. eBay took down my listing because it violated eBay/nintendo policies lol. But I'll try and post more detailed pics of the paper work in the Nintendo development group. Thanks again guys!
Interested to know what the disc labelled 'SaberTooth' contains... As for value, GDEV is around £100-£125, USB2EXI's about £25 each, Memory card emulator maybe £40-50 (be very careful if you are messing around with this) then you've got maybe £100-£150 in the software/documentation. The GDEV isn't of any real use unless you find yourself an ODEM but will always retain a certain value from a collectors stand point. If you are planning on selling then I could be interested in the software/documentation (or some of it at least) and the SaberTooth disc (depending on what that actually is). Feel free to give me a shout. Nice haul by the way and welcome to the forums.
