I just won the limited edition Virtua Fighter GOLD CG disc collection for only 100 yen. I remember reading that this disc was quite limited in numbers and actually worth quite a bit since it was only available from club Sega. Is this true or just another one of those internet rumours?

The others are really common and can be found anywhere in Japan but this one wasn't sold in shops at all. It was sort of a special gift disc.

if memory serves me correctly, there were 7 regular ones (one for each fighter) and you had to send in the proofs from the original seven to receive the final one. I think that I have all of the original seven (still sealed), but I'd have to look.

In issue one of Maximum (From back in the day) There was a small mention of this disc on one of their Virtua Fighter profiles. If it's the same one then 100,000 were issued before the individual character discs, which came later due to the original gold discs popularity. They showed a couple of pics from the disc so if its the same one there should be a lovely image of some shark stabbery :S

It should arrive by the end of the week so I'll take a few shots of it.

There were actually more than seven discs, as each of the characters in Virtua Fighter 2 got their own - including Dural. However, you're definitely correct in saying that the last disc could only be collected by sending in proof of purchase for the regular series. Fortunately, we in Europe didn't have to do this for two reasons; we didn't get the separate discs because the limited edition bonus was packed in with Virtua Fighter Remix as the Virtua Fighter CG Portrait Collection. While collectors may be prepared to pay extra for the rarer Japanese version, you can also find many of the same images hidden away on the PC edition of VF2 as well...

Just to clear up a few things here.

There was a CG disc for every Virtua Fighter 2 character released for sale in Japan except for Dural. That is the disc pictured above which was a special edition that could only be got by sending of the P.O.P. from the normal CG discs. However you weren't guaranteed to get one as far as I know due to a limited print run.

The PAL Gold CG disc only contains a small selection of CG images from the Japanese discs, so it isn't really worth bothering with if you already own the Japanese full set.

So the bonus disc was for Dural? Not exactly worth getting - unless you happen to be a collector or massive VF2 fan, of course! Do the CG Portrait discs in Japan use the same format as the PAL standalone disc that came with VF Remix? If so, what's the chance of somebody uploading the images (preferably in their original format) to show the extra pictures that weren't in the European version or PC edition of VF2. Actually, is there anything - apart from menus and a few audio tracks, presumably - else on those discs that would be worth putting somewhere?

I've also got it. With half some Japanese dude's address on it :p (somewhat wiped off by him, naturally). Btw there actually is another Dural disc apart from this. Just not in the series. (as in 'vol .. ')

Yakumo, can you tell us about the packaging of your disc? I'd like to know what is considered a "complete" copy. I got mine off Ebay and it came in a jewel case with no back or front inserts. Yours come in a cardboard slipcase?

It came today. It should come in a pretty thick card slip case which is actually an envelope. On the back there is a place to write the address plus it has a pre-paid postage stamp (in Japanese) on it. Inside there should be a little slip of paper telling you the controls (not that you need it). The disc should be in a cotton slip case. The instruction sheet isn't shown in the pictures below. Sorry.

It goes for about £20 in the UK I guess.

As segafreak says there's another Dural disc. Its the not for sale 'CG portrait series - Dural', and content wise is like a regular cg portrait series disc. Comes in a card sleeve too. Iirc this gold disc is mostly dural, but has other stuff, hence the use of collection, as opposed to series.

I checked out the disc today. Only 2 Dural pictures on it. Pretty dissapointed really but still, at the price I paid I can't complain plus it does look pretty cool?

The other dural disc is on Yahoo auctions now along with the 10 normal discs. So far the bids have gone up to 5000 yen so I'd expect it to go sky high !
