By extreme coincidence, yesterday I decided to check if the Digitpress online rarity guide had recovered from its month-long "Internal Server Error"-limbo. To my considerable surprise, it worked! So I went to check something I'd been interested in for a long time, PS1 PAL rarity. The list is seemingly very incomplete, but I checked anyway. I noticed a game called "Baby Universe" at 5. So by total coincidence, I walked into a gamestore today, and next to the 9e R-Type Delta, sat a mint copy of Baby Universe staring at me! Of course I bought it, not only because of DP but also because I had *never* seen it (and I do a lot of PS1 PAL shopping). I noticed there's several PS1 collectors on the board, can anyone comment on this game's rarity?
Don't know much about PAL games rarity, but if it says that it's rare on Digital Press, it's probably right. Kevincure, Dangerboy and Papastu are the ones responsible for the rarity list there, and they really know a lot about PS1 game releases.
Nah, the PAL side is handled by AtariBuff (with help from davidleeroth & tinsair). It's still work-in-progress, I believe, but they know the terrain probably just as well as the NTSC guys.
Wow...been a LONG time since i posted over here. Eh...Baby Universe eh? I had the same experience myself. I collected many a rare and obscure or just weird PAL PS1 game and was positive i still knew about nearly all of the 'other' games that i didn't want. One day i was in a rental store and they had TWO Rental PS1 games left....BOTH Of them were BABY UNIVERSE!!!! then i found a brand new copy for £4.97 in GAME Buchanon Street in Glasgow...took it home...played it...dissapointed me at first then i disovered it was an awesome game to have on in the background when studying for uni! Psycho-freaking-delic music player game thing wannabe. Personally i don't honestly its worth anything or that rare...there are 4 copies on eBay at the moment...2 in Italy, 1 in Belgium and 1 in france. I just think it didnt sell too well over here. Nearly all the GAME stores around Glasgow had a copy last year when i bought mine. Hard to find yes.....but not rare enough or worth a lot. ZAG
I'd expect the rarities to be pretty accurate; the three guys anagrama mentioned, who work on the PAL side for PSX, are very well-informed, and all have substantial collections. Baby Universe is the music CD graphics software, right? We were lucky to have it bundled with later PSX releases in the US, I believe.
Well, it is quite different from the "light show" included in the system's BIOS. Also, it has its own music. Methinks it looks a lot cooler
You and kevin are both correct. Baby Universe came out first. The "light show" included in later PS1 models was a subset of Baby Universe. -hl718
Anagrama, thanks for the flowers. :icon_bigg @Antipasta please note that the PS1 PAL database which is online is over half a year old and ***tons*** of changes have been made, one of them was lowering the rarity of Baby Universe to a 4 because more have showed up in the meantime. we're constantly monitoring the market to react to rarity/price changes.
