From www.wired.com Rapex to the Rescue Women wishing to ward off sexual assailants can look forward to a new form of protection: the Rapex condom. The anti-rape device, created by South African inventor Sonette Ehlers, is made of latex and is held firm by shafts of sharp barbs. The condom is inserted into a woman's vagina like a tampon; during penetration, the condom's burr-like teeth clamp down on the tip of the rapist's erect penis. To remove the device, the man must undergo surgery, which will alert hospital staff (and probably the police). "Nothing has ever been done to help a woman so she does not get raped, and I thought it was high time," said Ehlers. Critics caution the device could possibly escalate violent sexual assaults, and some lambaste the Rapex for being too barbaric. -- Jenny McKeel -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I see makeup sex dropping to an all time low. It's not worth the risk to find out she's still pissed at you.
Just don't have you're woman leave it laying near the real condoms... "Hey, here's a ribbed one!" :no
I can see that it might deter some rapists from committing the act in the first place but 1. What's to stop the rapist just checking first and removing it? 2. Even if the device gets stuck to the rapists knob this will only happen surely once penetration has occured..hence the rape has occurred anyway (albeit I imagine for a shorter time). (also won't the sadists love it?)
There's another big problem with this. This could cause the rapist to bleed. Then he'll be bleeding INSIDE the victim, infecting her with anything he has, for sure. If it remotely hurts and the rapist is armed... the situation could get a lot worse. These guys, after all, are angry, frustrated cowards. Also, a vengeful ex-girlfriend could use one of these. Or maybe a psychotic lady could trick someone into sleeping with her and then... chomp!
Re the blood..if it acts like a regular condom (which the linkie says it does) then its not going to soak through the membrane anyway. Re the second point - scary. You occasionally read about the women who cry rape (I'm not trying to lessen the horrific crime that is rape)..this could be even worse.
I understand why it would be invented in South Africa, because AIDS is spreading there like wild fire. So, a condom like that is mainly used as a scare tactic, but I also understand that it might bring up more violent sexual assaults. I doubt this condom will actually be marketed, but another wierd thing is that there is this anti-carjacking device only sold in South Africa that sets the carjacker on fire, and its perfectly legal!!
Seconded on the really cool part - how come we don't get nifty toys like that HERE? And there's something about this chompy condom thingie that just sounds like a really bad idea. If a guy is willing to go as far as rape a woman, and then finds that he's been clamped onto by something A) very painful, and B) totally incriminating, I can't imagine he'd be too far from venting his frustration at the new situation on what was formerly ONLY a rape victim. Besides, why couldn't companies spend more time and effort on more PROACTIVE rape deterrents - new self-defense techniques and whathaveyou. I can't imagine this Rapex thing - if it works - would be much consolation to a woman due to a fact that it's only effective AFTER penetration. I mean, they've still been violated.
I saw a demo of that device on the news. It sends a flame out from under the car in a v shape. It is straight out of a Bond movie and is definitely cool. That device seems tame though compared to the story I saw about anti-personal landmines that were being sold for home protection. Guaranteed not to be set off by small children or pets. Brings the phrase "Keep off the grass" to a whole new level. Here's a link to the flamethrower story and demo. http://www.cnn.com/WORLD/africa/9812/11/flame.thrower.car/
Umm. Couldn't you just rape some one anal? Also, the first idea that would pop into my mind when I'm gonna rape some on isnt "Uh oh. Did I remember protection?"
Theres also a tampon with a bigass needle on it, that practically nails the rapist dick in the middle. In my opinion this is way more painfull than this condom Dude, rape isnt like in porn, the girl doesnt stay cool and says "oh dont rape me, ohhh, ahhh". In real life the girl may get punch in the face or even assesinated, thats why rape isnt a laughing matter.
