Yesterday I found a JVC X'Eye for sale at a thrift shop with its controller and power supply (with a karaoke supplier's phone number and internet address put on it in a sticker implying that's what it was used for) and I bought it. I didn't know of its rarity but the fact it had a sega genesis controller got me curious. I only paid 20 dollars for it. hah! Anyway it works and all but I was curious, what's the sound quality in that thing? Is it more like the Sega Genesis model 1 or more like the model 2?
I don't know about the US system because they gimped many of the sound options found on the Japanese model 1 Wondermega. Still for 20 USD you got a fantastic deal.
*checks* aw man, I'm missing out on the midi-out stuff! but then I just bought FMdrive so... Yeah! That's an even awesomer deal than that time I got a Compaq Portable 286 for 15 dollars ten years ago <3 (incidentally that was at the same thrift shop)
I have a Victor Wondermega RG-M1. That system has pretty good sound I think, but like Yakumo said, there are a lot of differences between that and the model 2/X'Eye.
$20! the xeyes in 2017 No comment :-( I'm jealous. I still don't encounter the X'eyes It appear the RG-M2 and X-eyes, as cheaper version compared to RG-M1/HWM-5000 lost Midi output, EXT port, motorized cd door. The Xeye lost also s-video (not sure) and infrared for controllers. The extra audio functions are provided by the JVC DAC JCE4501 in the HVM-5000/RG-M1 http://meulij.com/wondermega_chips/JCE4501.pdf I've put a list of principal chips in RG-M1/HWM http://meulij.com/wondermega_chips.html I've also an RG-M2 but I don't still have look inside. Pictures I saw on the web I don't see JVC DAQ or similar/remplacment in RG-M2/Xeyes Exemple http://www.gamesx.com/misctech/wondermega2notes.htm But in this page, picture are not very detalled. My opinion is this second generation lost also the powerfull audio traitment. Need to open the RG-M2 for confirmation....one day.
