I was googling for some x'eye related info and stumbled on this blog from a Indonesian guy, that seems to own a very interesting variation of the x'eye console. It looks like this model was prepared to be used with the 32x. Now i am wondering if this could be a very early model or prototype, or just a custom made (unofficial) cd lid put on a regular x'eye console. That's certainly interesting. I'd bet it's something custom made. Did they even make X'Eye systems when the 32X was around?
Looks like the real deal to me, that or a very very good mod! interesting as I have never seen or heard about it before. Would be interesting to see the base and any labels/model number etc.
That's injection molding, there's no way he can cut the stock lid, fiberglass or epoxy it and paint it and have it look like unpainted plastic. I can only thing that this is a version shipped internally at JVC for beta testing and they decided to not do anything and stop selling x-eye. That or it was a tested upgrade you'd have to bring it in for service. Daddy want!
Looks like it was done professionally if it is a mod. As others have said it is most likely an internal prototype or an obscure upgrade.
That is weird! I have 2 of the x'eye systems and I keep up on them pretty good and I have never seen that lid before either! I want it also!
Just when you think you have your X'eye desires fullfilled, something like this appears.. oh boy haha WANT IT TOO!
I guess it would be easy to cut the lid on your own JVC so that one edge stays down all the time and the 32X can overhang the CD drive. davidthomas, maybe you would like to do this to one of your $200 rare systems That case design still looks really janky since you still have to slide part of the disc under that tray lip on the right side.
I found some more info about this lid. Although they only refer to the Wondermega M2, that model uses the same lid as the X'eye. Seems like the people who thought it to be some kind of upgrade were right! Victor Japan called it a '32 bit remodeling kit' and it was ofcourse for the the 32x to be used with the console. When i understand correctly you could bring in your WM2, and for ¥5000 (excl. tax) they installed this new lid. More surprisingly even, this service was available until 2013! Mystery solved, top work and great brilliant bit of research. 2013!!!!!!!!! Wow if only we has of known could of got mine done, I wonder what other parts they have floating around?
So someone installed a Japanese lid that wildly obscure in the west, to a US system... Huh. The 32X adapter cable variation is news to us too.
