So a little while ago i bought a JVC X'EYE off ebay that was broken, hoping it would be a simple fix. Go figure it has turned out to be a little more hands on than I wanted. Anyways here's the problem, it looks like the previous owner tried to swap the video encoder chip and something went horribly awry. There was no video encoder chip, most of the traces where gone, and the c223 capacitor was gone, like popped and only had one lead left. So after a couple of hours with a soldering iron and multimeter it looks like I should be able to salvage it, but I still have no clue what value capacitor I need to replace c223 with. If anyone on here happens to have a X'EYE I would appreciate it if they would be willing to open it up and find the value for the capacitor I need. Just to clarify the placement of the capacitor on the board it is to the right of the sony video encoder chip and about an inch back from the DIN-8 Port.
I'm still fiddling with getting the video working properly (waiting for some smt capacitors from digikey) , but replacing c223 got it reading cd's again. Without it, it would power on but not spin the disk or pulse access light. I'll keep you guys updated. I'm also thinking of uploading a word document of all of the electrolitic capacitor values, so if anyone else runs into my same problem it should be simple for them to find the proper capacitor.
Couldn't you tap the RGB lines then use 32X for its video encoder? Or does 32X still need a video encoder in the console for another reason, despite requiring RGB to function?

Was there any luck with this repair? I too just purchased a xeye off eBay, that has reported distorted graphics and hoping a cap change helps.
Jvc xeye My xeye won't read discs it's stuck at the bio screen it's not the plunger pin any idea what it can be?
The X'EYE was a POS in terms of what we have left now. I've had issues develop during transit which is really irritating when you've region modded it two ways, installed an overclock mod, S-Video, and recapped the entire thing for the optics to up and fail.
Also have 2 X'Eye here as well. One plays cart fine but dead drive (no spinning, driver IC seems to be dead), and other is working mostly. It just won't do 32X, when playing 32-bit games the video out is missing half of the stuff like the X'Eye is not outputting RGB at all for 32X to combine with 32x games. Playing 16-bit games on 32x gets blank video. S-Video and composite output is fine, need to build a custom RGB cable to connect to my Commodore monitor for video testing with and without 32x.
