I can't find much documentation on the Japanese versions of the Karaoke Revolution series on the internet, so I figure I'd try my luck here with a few problems and questions about this game. :icon_bigg

Is there any fix for the limitation of having to use the special Japanese microphone? I'm guessing it goes by the device name or something and unless it sees that then it won't work. Really a shame. Anyone know where I could pick up a Japanese karaoke revolution compatible microphone online that would ship to the states for a reasonable price?

What's a Karaoke Revolution? I know Takara release one a few years back that takes cartridges. Is that the one you mean? If so they aren't too hard to find over here.

ah, that. Those mics should work on any PS2. Are they USB based or standard mics like the one used on the Dreamcast Karaoke system?

Looking here I see the microphone has an USB plug.

That other PS2 karaoke series, Dream Audition, uses an USB mic converter adapter. This allows you plug your favourite (read: better quality) mic in the adapter and use that. Maybe the Jaleco USB mic converter works for Karaoke Revolution as well?

Another option might be to use the USB headset adapter from the Operator's Side package. The headset adapter has a mini jack plugin so a standard mic will fit. It's made by ASCII and is also sold separately.

These are just suggestions though, not fact. Like you said, the game might not recognize the USB device. Knowing Konami, they rather have you buy a new controller instead of using existing ones.

Ooookay here goes nothin' probably but a huge mega-bump.
I lend some games along with some different mics to try out from a couple friends to see and check what hardware to get for building a karaoke library on the PS2.

First of all: nope, the Singstar mics DO NOT work on Karaoke Revolution and vice versa.
However, the Wii mics (for SingIt, We Sing or whatever it's called, Logitech brand) DO work for the PS2 Karaoke Revolution (USB plug per mic).

I've been to several stores, checking out some microphone sets. There is a wireless universal Logitech set for Wii/PS3/360, but I'm really doubting that it'll actually work (see my first note), as I'm guessing there's some sort of chip inside the Singstar receiver's end, telling the game they're connected. For this same reason, these mics aren't detected as such for the KR series...

1 Does anyone have any idea (experience) if there's actually a DECENT wireless microphones set which can be used for both game series or should I just go for the original Sony PS2/3 set?
(They're still for sale online, but apparently all regular shops in town aren't able to order them anymore...)

2 Now this is even more annoying: if I get the Singstar microphone set, then I'd STILL have to buy the Logitech ones too for KR (two seperate items!) AND they'd be wired...
I know there's a wireless version of this Logitech mic too (requested in the sales forum somewhere...) but they're nearly impossible to trace and pretty expensive at it too.
