Kfc sounds nice I might get me some today or maybe some Popeye's fried chicken. To think I have been cooking a turkey every year for both Christmas and Thanksgiving , I f%ckin' hate turkey after eating it all these years.

Surely this should be in the off topic section given it only has a vague stab at being Japanese and has turned into which american fast food outlet serves the best questionablely processed battery chickens.

The article is misleading as although it is christmas it was also Friday night and a week before new year, so lots of places would be busy... I am sure if they had walked down the road and saw a ramen resturant it would have had a queue... And the only person they could find to talk too was a westerner who probably went to KFC on a regular basis.

We tried to go to three typical Japanese resturant tonight and *ALL* were full and had a queue. I shall pass by the local KFC and McDonalds on Christmas night and take pictures of how busy they are compared to other standard Japanese chain resturants. Personally they are not going to be any busier then normal and to the other resturants.

It is 100% true that KFC is just a big a part of Christmas in Japan as mecha suit satas. Yep, even I eat KFC on Christmas day with some nice bubbly. This year however we will have stake sice we had KFC on Friday.

KFC is so popular on Christmas in Japan that you have to order your meal a week in advance in some places.

Normally I would agree with Jamtex comment on such a missleading story but the story really is true!! I could go down to my local KFC and video the long lines while panning to other places with no lines at all.

I'd rather put the nuance as being that a lot of Japanese associate Christmas with eating chicken, and KFC happens to be a place know for exactly that. But it's not a Christmas<-->KFC thing per se, as much as an extension of the Christmas<-->chicken(-->KFC).

Being the Fast Food Fried Chicken connoisseur that I am, I must say Churchs Chicken trumps both Popeyes and KFC. Its cheaper/tastier/crunchier/spicier than its competition, and I stand by my word that everything on the menu is good. Especially their Jalapeno Poppers! :love2:

Nothing beats a Chicken/Turkey home cooked with your family than something cooked by a pimple faced teen sweating over your food. Not sure if KFC is like that in Japan and I highly doubt it, but I've gotten sick at so many fast food chains it's put me off now.

    This ^

Personally i can't stand KFC, it's low quality & greasy shit. I's not that hard at all to cook southern fried chicken at home, least you will know whats in your own chicken. I do find it amusing that Japan would latch on to KFC for xmas just seems weird, then again i find Japanese xmas cakes odd too. A sponge cake with cream & strawberries doesn't say xmas to me at all LOL

Attention Japan, if your going to try to celebrate xmas make a better go of it lol. This is a true xmas cake :)

I did give my GFs family a proper Christmas cake (although store bought and sealed) and they said it was too rich, they never managed to eat more then a quarter of it and then they gave the rest away to customers, who also said it was rich. Most had two mouthfuls before feeling realy full.

I have a christmas cake, some brandy and some proper custard to give my gf on new years, she is likely to have two mouthfuls and not want to eat anymore.

Maybe Church's is more of a southern fast food eatery. In Georgia we have 3 or 4 Church's , 7 Popeyes and about 200 KFC's (this is for all of Georgia)

I could totally go for a chicken bowl now. If it wasn't 6 bucks.

I'm afraid to go into the local Popeye's in fear of getting stabbed.
I don't mean that in a derogatory racial way, just that the neighborhood is notorious for fun stuff.

Ohh, don't get me started on the Japanese Christmas cake. It's the same bloody cake they have all year round. Like you said, Importaku. A sponge cake with strawberries and cream, YUCK! The good old REAL Christmas cake is what we want and Christmas pud as well.

By the way, this year I had 2 massive big stakes grilled on the Yakiniku hotplate with garlic dressing. Oh man, that was lovely. I did have KFC 3 days ago though ;-)
