I'm getting this product from US amazon, however I wonder if I'll have to pay custom duties when it arrives? (haven't ordered yet) The DX model isn't available on the UK website, the f*ck? :s
That surprises me that it isn't available in the UK. If I had to guess, yes you will have to pay for custom duties, if it were a 3rd party seller, from eBay or something, you could possible get it marked as a gift, but if you are buying it directly from amazon, I'm guessing you are going to have to pay the fees. -Disjaukifa
Kindle DX shipped to UK I went to amazons site and they had a link about shipping the Kindle DX outside of the US, you might want to take a look at it, I'm sure they will have all the information that you are looking for. -Disjaukifa
Yeah, I know the kindle can be shipped internationally, however when checking the shipping policy, I found out that the buyer is responsible for all the taxes that vary from country to country.
Ah ok. Sorry about that. I wonder if you could purchase it and send it as a "gift". I know you can buy and ship items as gifts in Amazon, I wonder if it were to be mailed as a gift if you would still have to pay the taxes . . . -Disjaukifa
Best thing I got to do is wait till it's released overseas, which is too bad, because I intended to have it by the begining of next year's classes whereas I'll have 50+ books to handle around with frequent train trips. That e-book was going to be very useful... bah!! Thanks for the help anyways, I should have searched better before posting <.<
Sorry dude. The only thing I would suggest is see if anyone on eBay .co.uk has one for sale so that you don't have to pay the taxes . . . -Disjaukfia
My advice would be to try and find someone who's traveling to the states and send it to the place they're staying. That's what Tchoin and I do when we want something from the states. Customs are a bitch all over the world I guess
All Kindles from amazon.com are shipped with UPS who also take care of the customs clearing, meaning that you do get it really fast (4-5 days) but at the same time there is no way around import taxes and VAT. It's just something you have to calculate into the total price if you live in Europe. I'm happy with my Kindle I got shortly after release nonetheless.
Yes but the biggest part of the fees was the VAT which obviously depends from country to country. In Romania it's 24%, so you can do the math.
I'll wait for the Ipad2, which is supposed to hit the stores by April. And by the way, e-ink doesn't mean to be easier for the eyes than lcd. This is just a marketing way to sell more.
The only advantage of e-ink is battery life, the Kindle can hands down out last the iPad . . . but then you are comparing a VW Polo designed for excellent gas milage which is its only feature to a Porsche 911 GT2 Turbo . . . both work just one get better gas milage  -Disjaukifa
