This unlicensed rom crashes when put Ryu or Dark Ryu at the beginning of my team, and sometimes it will not let me play as Ryu at all. The screen turns black before the match starts with the music running in Gens, and even the music crashes in Fusion. I remember at one point being able to play as Ryu without the game crashing. I don't know if it was a certain dump of the ROM I had or what. I was hoping that the ROM experts on this site would help me in finding a way to make the game fully functional and not crash whenever Ryu is used. This is one of my favorite unlicensed fighting games, and I know there are people here who know their way around code and could probably find and fix the source of this error.
I'm not sure how the command for "audit" is supposed to work. Apparently, I put audit and a number, like audit1, audit3 etc. But what do I put after that? A directory? The filename? I do however know enough about GoodGEN code to know that [!] is a proper dump, but every file I've run with that designation (and without [p1] preceding it) does not work, possibly because of a copy protection scheme, like the one dforce3000 cracked to make KOF'99 playable. Every copy I run WITH the [p1] designation has the aforementioned Ryu problem. It only applies to 1 Player ("Arcade") but that's the only mode I use. I have basic knowledge on how to work a hex editor, and this wouldn't be the first time I saw this board crack an unlicensed fighting game ROM.
Just repeating things you already probably know: Several versions of KoF '98 floating around, some having the protection removed and others intact. A [!] is indeed a good dump, but also an unpatched dump. If the ROM has any of the routines unpatched and the emulator you're using doesn't natively emulate that routine, then it crashes. I have a 100% working version, I'll send you a PM.
