Kirby Air Ride does not get the credit it deserves. That game is freaking awsome on the cube. It would be cool if someday the n64 proto ever finds its way into someone's hands.
It's a cool game on GC but it just has so few tracks... Damn, 5 tracks in 3D, 5 tracks on top view, and one small city... in 8 years of dev ?!? Feels like an unfinished thing left on some desks that got released we don't know how/why...
I'd imagine they just took the 64 game ported to gc, put better graphics on it and added maybe like one or two things. I remember the creator of the game talking about how disgusted he was that nintendo canned the game so fast on 64.
I remember reading in a magazine that the game was on hold since early stages, they wanted to make a traditional Kirby game, so Kirby 64 - The Crystal Shards was developed instead, after that game was released i don't know if they continued making the game. See you later.
Totally hoping for a proto release here. It really is unfortunate how locked-down most of the big companies are.
Now, one thing I always wondered about this game is if development on it began when Kirby Bowl (was that what it was called?) was announced early on, during the Ultra 64 days. That game appeared to dissapear after 1995, and very shortly after Kirby's Air Ride was announced and shown. Kirby Bowl looked to be a much different game, and I'm guessing if both projects were related, that the game was to be a cartridge release, as I don't remember hearing about either title having been planned to be released on the 64DD.
Kirby Air Ride and Super Mario Kart R - N64 Footage Hey guys, I attended the Nintendo 1996 press conference unveiling Nintendo 64 at the Biltmore Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles. The press was given a B-Roll for television news stations. At my Youtube channel - I recently uploaded the whole B-Roll tape in two parts. It covers the cancelled N64 version of Kirby's Air Ride and a work-in progress Super Mario Kart R. Be sure and read the "More Info" description during the clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MocVwX8jX_U&feature=channel_page Enjoy!
