So I bought a PAL knuckles chaotix today, started it up, there were three saves from previous owners on there. I deleted one and started a new game.
Played through a couple of levels and then turned off the console. Came back to it and not only was there no sign of my save, but the other two had been completely wiped. So I instantly thought "save battery", took it apart and to my horror saw an FRAM chip, a ramtron 1208s200csc to be precise. I can't see that it could be anything but this chip causing the issues (see this thread http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?138802-Knuckles-Chaotix-Weird-Saving-Issue)
Unfortunately, this chip does not appear to be very easy to find, or even locate a datasheet for. So I was wondering if anybody had any idea where I could find a replacement, an alternative or if there is something else I could try.

I guess I could potentially butcher a Japanese virtua racing, assuming that the chip is the same, but I'm not keen to do so if i don't have to (especially as the chip is likely to be of a similar age and may have the same problem)
